Father and daughter duo Cathy and Merv will be bringing a joint exhibition to the West End Arts Space this April, around 20 years since the patriarch’s death. This show is a conversation between daughter and father, the pair bonding over their shared love of art, and this exhibition is the perfect continuation of it. One of the newer galleries on this list, the West End Arts Space first opened back in 2016, and has been delighting fans since. Many up and comers have called the space home to their artworks, making the West End Arts Space one of Melbourne’s best galleries. This exhibition is coming to the popular Blindside Gallery thanks to some of the graduates from a selection of Melbourne’s major art schools.
Graffiti art is characteristically written words or bold, detailed, and vibrant that is meant to represent a group or community covertly. It’s intended to be displayed in plain sight to make a statement. There are telltale signs of street art, which includes typically images, illustrations, or symbols that convey a message uniquely and boldly.
Sensual, interrogative and at times unsettling – Jemma Cakebread‘s body of work veers towards exploring the body’s many forms, human and otherwise. Growing up just outside of Melbourne, it was the encouragement of an art teacher in secondary college that encouraged Jemma down the creative path she follows today. Jemma has found a unique groove in exploring skin and flesh with rich oils, all of which pose a timeless and delicate nature to her work. If you’re looking for seriously beautiful prints, you’ve come to the right place.
