Full immersion of the program and teachers from various healthcare professions. I always had a passion for helping others both emotionally and physically. I decided to pursue RMT to make a positive difference in others’ lives.
During my schooling I was fortunate to be able to work and volunteer as a student kinesiology, athlete health liaison , and high school sports coach. At the age of 19, I became a Commercial Helicopter Pilot, flying for 6 years back home in Australia. I also spent a few years teaching Aerodynamics and other Aviation courses to the military as a Helicopter Theory Instructor. My most recent experience in the health and fitness industry extends back 7 years as a boxing coach and fitness trainer, managing gyms and fitness studios in Australia and Vancouver. Before attending VCMT, I completed a Kinesiology degree at the University of the Fraser Valley. During this time I also worked as a Recreation Worker, leading and facilitating various programs for children and youth.

After talking to some friends and doing research RMT felt like the right answer. I had a choice between going into policing since I majored in Criminology or pursuing RMT and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Before pursuing a career as a Massage Therapist, I was completing a Bachelor of Kinesiology at UBC in the multidisciplinary science stream. I have experienced the benefits of massage and want to help others relax and ease their aches and pains. They give us lots of hands on practice, cool new techniques, and they make sure their modules overlap with the other modules of the semester for better learning. I want to be an RMT because I have always wanted a full time job for caring for others and with that, the medical field was always on my mind.

I also took a course in Medical Office Assistant and worked at a walk-in clinic in New Westminster, BC. They really prepare you to begin your journey as a manual therapist at VCMT. My favourite thing about VCMT is the welcoming staff and the community of the school. We’re all a big family that always supports each other on good days and bad days. Growing up and doing high-performance martial arts, I was injured a lot.
