A place like Taiwan gives me hope about what we can achieve as a society with some discipline and more mindfulness of others. Our team will be available on all days that are not public holidays. The types of preparations also vary, from fried, baked, steamed, sautéed, or served in the form of soup. Another option that is no less delicious is when it is served with other menus, such as seafood fried rice.

My wife and I could eat that every single day – it’s really delicious, and it does NOT taste like it smells. The best place in Taichung for stinky tofu is Liang Po Po. Stinky tofuis a highly popular night snack among Taiwanese.
Westerners usually stay away from this dish because of the pungent smell which emanates from the deep-frier where it is prepared. The name probably doesn’t help either… It’s surely not for everybody. I took some friends to my favorite place in Taichung lately and they simply couldn’t even swallow a single bite. My wife and I usually order the barbecued squid (huge!), shrimp, beef skewer (niú xiǎo pái), and the spinach sushi roll with sesame dressing. Orion beer on tap is always cold and with just the right amount and thickness of foam. I tend to agree, but when you consider that it can “transport” you to Japan, I think it’s worth the extra NT$.

Just make sure to arrive at Alishan maybe 30 min or 1 hr before the bus departs to secure your spot in line. If you choose inland Highway 9, you’ll have the option of riding a scooter, taking this day tour, or hopping between towns on the train. At each town, you can rent a bicycle or scooter to explore the area.

You may very well find this to be your most memorable day on your Hulian itinerary. If you spend a whole day driving Highway 11 from Hualien to Taitung, this is the logical order of sights you’ll see along the way, but you’ll need to have your own wheels.
