Dulan (都蘭) is the closest thing to a backpacker’s beach town in all of Taiwan. This small aboriginal village along the highway features a collection of surf hostels, cozy guesthouses, and hippie vibes. The hot spring is accessed on the remote Southern Cross-Island Highway . After an hour’s drive along the highway from Chishang, you’ll need to park and follow a steep downhill trail for 90 minutes. Finally, you’ll need to cross the river to access the hot pools. This attraction is definitely off-the-beaten-track for international travelers.
It’s an ok night market if you’re not expecting something bigger. If you’re dropping in to Darwin, your stay isn’t complete without a stroll through its famed markets. Loved by locals and visitors alike, the city’s selection of markets are vibrant, colourful and radiate vitality. But that vantage point isn’t the only reason to scale this spire. Stores are spread up and down the tower, including local favourite Kita-usagi, whose rabbit-themed homewares cover everything from pillows and plates to cutlery and playing cards.
Guangfu Sugar Factory was built in 1920, also known as “Yilian garden”. The factory currently mainly produce cane sugar and derivative products. Visitors here can not only experience the old-fashioned sugar production culture, but also enjoy delicious ice creams. The area around the sugar factory is also home to two famous Amis tribes, Tafalong and Fata’an, so visitors will have the opportunity to experience the culture of the indigenous people. Water flows out from the middle of the lake, clear all year round. The lake is oval in shape, narrow in the East-West and long in the South-North, with a total area of 1 km2.

Head over to the Taitung Art Street, a vibrant and colorful area filled with unique shops and galleries. Speaking of art, checking out a show from Pisirian’s “PawPaw Drummers Club” is a must. In the Amis’s language, “PawPaw” means “buoy.” Artist-in-residence, Talaluki, brought together unique Amis symbols and decorations to create “PawPaw” instruments that are just like African drums. He made his drums out of bamboo poles, sheep skin and discarded buoys that were used to keep fishing nets afloat.
