Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also have carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.


It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
