Robot vacuums and mops have become more capable, acing our cleaning tests and tackling various floor types. Select models that allow users to select between different modes, self-empty and clean stairs.

A lot of the top models are compatible with your smartphone. Check for an app that lets you save maps, create schedules and select cleaning options.

1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro

The gloss black and gunmetal Omni S1 Pro from Eufy is one of most impressive robot vacuums and mop combinations available. automatic vacuum uses lidar for navigation and creates maps of floors and rooms.

When I tested the S1, it was able to map the downstairs area, which has linoleum flooring in the kitchen-diner and bathrooms, plus carpeting with a medium-pile and an area rug. It was able to drive right up to walls without hitting them, and even managed to cross thresholds that were raised in the room without problem, although it sometimes struggled to get down stairs in a single move. The S1 also did an excellent job of cleaning hard floors with its mop that moved effortlessly on its flat side against the floor, and then lifting itself when it was near carpet or carpet.

The docking station on the S1 automatically emptys its dust bin and refills its water tank onboard with clean, ozonated waters prior to every mopping session. The dock also includes a cleaning solution in the water for deep cleaning. The S1 water tank is able to hold up to 12 cleaning sessions, but this will differ dependent on how often you use the mop.

Like all 2-in-1 robots, the S1 requires periodic maintenance to keep it working well. For this, you'll need to rinse out the dirty water tank regularly to prevent it from clogging. You'll also need to clean the swivel wheels and sensors frequently to avoid them from getting clogged by dirt or dust. Overall, the S1 requires less maintenance than other combos.

The mopping capabilities are quite excellent, too, with a pair of spin mop heads that actually lift and scrub the floors, instead of simply dragging the pad over it. The mops are cleaned using heated water and dried in the base station as required. The mops can also be filled at the top of the station when needed.

Robot vacuums are excellent at removing dirt and debris, but they're not able to get all dust. This is why it's important to use your regular vacuum once every week, particularly to clean dust from corners and on shelves and in the corners of your couch. It's easy to connect it to your home Wi-Fi network, and integrates with Alexa and Apple Siri, making it an even more useful addition to your routine of cleaning.

The Q5 is a stripped down version of the more expensive models in the S-series from the company, including the top-of-the-line Roborock S8 maxV ultra. It uses a similar LIDAR mapping sensor, but saves on cost by removing the mopping functionality and by using a lower-cost plastic body.

The Q5 remains one of the most powerful vacuums and mopping machines we've seen in this price range even though it's not able to clean your floor.
