He applauded the starting pitcher for getting the job done in a game that could have been a distraction. LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop emphasized the performance of starting pitcher Im Chan-kyu, who has been the team's most consistent performer this season.

LG won 5-3 against Sajik Lotte on May 5. Starting pitcher Im Chan-kyu's performance stood out. Im threw 101 pitches, allowing one run on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings. He picked up his 13th win of the season and lowered his ERA from 3.60 to 3.50. Even with the team clinched first place, he had a goal of 144 innings pitched in regulation, and he has 139 so far. Im is five innings away from reaching his goal.

On this day, Im relied heavily on his changeup. In addition to the changeup, he threw a fastball and a curveball, but the changeup had the most pitches (40). He varied the velocity of his changeup and used both a changeup in the strike zone and a changeup that induced a false swing.

Seung-jo Kim also accomplished his goal. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, he did not allow a run.
