The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
