3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair

A pushchair that is all-terrain and offers outstanding maneuverability will work whether you're looking for a buggy for nature walks or an excursion on the high streets. These models typically have large wheels and offer impressive suspension for smooth riding over rough terrain and bumps.

Most are suitable for newborns and come with seats that can be set flat or a newborn carrycot. They also usually have foam-filled tyres that are never flat to help with maintenance.

Suspension

A true all terrain pushchair has a great suspension that is designed to be extra smooth on rough terrain, helping your little one to feel comfortable and relaxed. The wheels should also be large and will usually be a puncture-proof type to avoid damage from sharp rocks or sticks.

Some all-terrain strollers offer the option to switch between additional tyres for different conditions. Depending on the kind of terrain you prefer to explore, some all-terrain pushchairs have an adjustable front wheel that can be locked for stability or left unlocked for greater manoeuvrability when needed.

For additional peace of mind Certain all-terrain pushchairs have a handbrake that is lockable, which is much easier to reach and use with your hands free rather than using a traditional brake pedal to the side of the handlebars. This is a fantastic feature to have in case you prefer to take on difficult terrain, particularly with a child in the seat and lots of shopping bags tucked away underneath!

If you don't wish to go quite as extreme as an all-terrain pushchair, there are plenty of strollers available that have very good - but not ultimate - off road capability with great suspension and big wheels. These are often a bit less expensive than the more expensive all-terrain pushchairs however they are ideal for excursions to the park with the dog or for short walks in the country.

Many of these pushchairs are suitable for babies from birth, whether with a carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that when it comes to pushing over bumps and dips the seats will not lie completely flat - as per EU regulations, they have to meet minimum requirements for recline of around 150deg. Certain brands, like Graco, have overcome this issue with their "comfitech" in-seat suspension that allows the seat to recline at a slightly more flatter angle to provide a bit more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP All-Terrain Pushchair, that can be used in conjunction with a compatible Graco Infant Car Seat to create a three-in-one travel system.

Seat

There is a variety of 3-wheeled all-terrain pushchairs available that offer an excellent off-road capabilities. These are ideal for those who live in the countryside or frequently take a walk on uneven, rough terrain. They tend to be quite large and may be difficult to maneuver through narrow spaces or in aisles of shops.

Wheels

If you live in a rural area or take your child regularly for walks on rough terrain, an all-terrain pushchair is essential. These models typically come with larger back wheels than standard pushchairs which makes them better in handling rough off-road terrain, and ensuring the most comfortable ride for your child. Many models also have sturdy suspension and puncture-proof, which means they can be used on woodland paths and forest paths, as well as gravel roads, and market town cobbles.

Certain all-terrain strollers feature a lockable wheel on the front that provides stability when walking over rough terrain or on high kerbs. Some have swivel wheels on the front, which allow you to move the buggy more easily if you want to change direction or turn corners.

All-terrain strollers come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for rough terrain. However they are more prone to punctures than the solid EVA tyres used on lighter city strollers.
