Lee Joo-ho (29, Seogwipo City Hall), the strongest Korean men's backstroker, advanced to the men's 200m backstroke semifinals at the World Aquatics Championships.

Lee Joo-ho ranked 9th out of 35 participating athletes in the men's 200m backstroke preliminaries at the 2024 International Federation of Aquatics (FINA) World Championships held at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar on the 15th (Korean time) with a record of 1 minute 58.29 seconds. Obtained a ticket to advance to the semifinals.

Joo-ho Lee, who was assigned to lane 5 in group 3 of the preliminary round, was the third to hit the touchpad after Ksaberg Masiuk (Poland, 1 minute 58.20 seconds) and Bradley Woodward (Australia, 1 minute 58.26 seconds).

Lee Joo-ho, who set a Korean record and won a silver medal in this event at the Hangzhou Asian Games held last year, showed an upward trend by breaking his own record again at the national team selection event in November of the same year.

The preliminary record on this day was about 2 seconds behind Lee Joo-ho's own Korean record of 1:56.05.

Apostolos Siskos (Greece), who ranked first overall in the preliminaries, recorded a time of 1 minute 56.64 seconds.

Lee Joo-ho, who unfortunately failed to advance to the finals in the 100m backstroke event held earlier in this competition, is aiming to advance to the finals once again in the 200m, his main event.

The semifinal match is scheduled to be held in the early morning of the 16th, Korean time.
