Poker (a card game or hand game) is an old card game with its origins in early Rome. It evolved from ancient Greek games known as "spearfish" and "punts." Roman games required players to deal their "ces", or original facing down on the table. They all looked at each others, and after the last card was dealt, the player who had the strongest hand got to keep his three cards. This was referred to as "tournament poker" since the winner was required to remain in the game until somebody else was able to take away a "queen."


Then, "poker," which originated in Venice began to spread across France and Italy, Germany, and finally to England. Five-card draw poker is more popular among American poker players. They can be played directly without the use of pairs or jokers. In this form, the dealer usually keeps two low cards as well as an extra high card on the table. The player with the most hands wins the pot (with the exception of the draw with five cards which is when the dealer will sometimes draw from the five-card deck as well). Most often, the draw of five cards is based on luck rather than skill.

Omaha poker is among the most popular variants of poker played in the world. It is also the longest continuously played game on the World Poker Tour. The name Omaha originates from the city in which the first ever tournament was played.
