Rice says Euro 2024 hopefuls England have 'work to do' after Iceland loss

England, a candidate to win the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro), suffered a shocking defeat to Iceland in the final warm-up match ahead of the tournament.

England, ranked 4th in the FIFA rankings, lost 0-1 in a friendly match against Iceland (ranked 72nd) held at Wembley Stadium in London, England on the 8th (Korean time).

England, who finished second in the previous tournament and are considered a strong candidate to win Euro 2024 along with France, lost against Iceland with only one effective shot.

Iceland advanced to the final playoffs in the 2024 preliminary round, but lost 1-2 to Ukraine and failed to advance to the finals.

England, which recently finalized its Euro 2024 roster, aimed for victory by featuring key players such as Harry Kane, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Declan Rice.

But the first goal came from Iceland. Iceland launched a quick counterattack in the 12th minute of the first half, and Jon Dagur Sordtijnsson hit a right-footed shot that hit the English net.

England launched a counterattack, but Kane, Palmer, and Foden's decisive shots missed the goal each time and failed to score. In the end, England was disappointed in their goal-scoring ability and recorded only one effective shot, resulting in a loss. England was drawn in Group C with Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia in the Euro 2024 finals. Germany (16th place), the host country of the tournament, won 2-1 in the final friendly match against Greece (50th place) held at Borussia Park in Mönchengladbach. As a result, Germany entered the finals in good spirits, having recorded undefeated (3 wins, 1 draw) in 4 consecutive games this year. Germany was dragged down by allowing the first goal in the 33rd minute of the first half. At the start of the second half, Germany made changes to the side by bringing in winger Leroy Sane and fullback David Raum. This took effect quickly. Sane broke through the right flank in the 11th minute of the second half and assisted Kai Havertz's tying goal. Germany, which gained momentum, continued its attack and succeeded in turning the tables with Pascal Gross' goal in the 44th minute of the second half. Gross wasted no time in getting the ball cleared by the Greek defense and shot with his right foot, becoming the protagonist of the comeback goal. Germany, in Group A of Euro 2024, will face Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland in that order. 고스톱
