Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum will keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of hoovering manually. Select a vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and has an enormous bin that will need to be emptying every so often.
There are models that can mop and charge themselves, which is a feature essential for families with pets or children. A majority of the top performers in our tests have good obstacles to avoid.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities.
automatic vacuum i3+ is a good option for those looking for a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot once it gets full.
Both robots are adept at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we tested the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it may encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station's external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or via the app.
In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.
We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot on how to begin or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and vacuum a particular area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of cordless vacs that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, that you can spin around like an enchanted tool.
self cleaning vacuum is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces power without fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system traps allergens, then lets cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to match the task at hand. It can quickly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as the Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over the older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are a pain to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its limited run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a typical not an extraordinary time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to vacuum the typical home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second run usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's a good option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area several times for a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects in that it has fewer components that require regular maintenance It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges faster.
The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode manually and comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and works better on both bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a greater variety of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app offers a variety of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to understand and is user-friendly, which is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we tried, which might be a problem for some buyers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access through the app, and you can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you monitor your pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and the dust bin are washable to make cleanup quick and easy. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that's self-emptying, which helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and maximizes suction power for each cleaning.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Contrary to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path and a dustbin that is 2X larger than the competition. This allows them to keep the area clean for longer. In addition, they have two side sweepers that clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell if it's picking up surface litter or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts its power level. The vacuum also comes with an app that allows users to see the virtual map, manage functions, and set schedules. Additionally, you can track the vacuum's battery status and return it to its dock to charge by pressing a button. The app allows you to personalize the lights on top of the vacuum using different colors so you can clearly see which areas it's focused on or where it's got stuck.
The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot if needed. For example my living room rug has a darkly colored border that has a tendency to cause confusion for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however was able to continue to move across the border without ever registering the edge. The ability to set up a weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
