The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. robot vacuum cleaner 's also less effective at mopping. It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).


It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
