A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib for bed allows you to keep your baby close to you at night, without needing to get up. The fabric's breathable design allows you to easily see your baby and they're easy to lower for those sleepy 3am feedings.
Some double as a moses's basket.
What is
bedside cot used ?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or co-sleeper, is a small baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in peace. This is a secure form of co-sleeping that doesn't increase your risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with the newborn baby.
They usually come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your baby during the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly useful for mothers who are recovering from a c section. Some are also mobile or foldable, which means you can take them on your travels and use them as a sleeping option for babies who aren't quite ready to move to a full-sized cot.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and an appropriate cover to shield your baby from staining. You should also purchase baby-safe accessories like a blanket, teether and a soft toy.
If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you convert them into a cot or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great option for extending their lifespan and making the transition smoother. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be converted into the bassinet. Some can be used with a standard adult bed or a high-rise model. This is an excellent choice for families who plan to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. It is also important to consider how big your bedroom is to ensure you can fit the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser that can be added to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib manufactured by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their line of high-quality products for infants. This crib was designed to enable parents to connect and sleep side by side with their children without sharing one bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple and enjoyable.
A smooth, steady rocking motion could be initiated by pressing the button. It can help soothe baby to sleep by a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their normal sleeping pattern. This is ideal for toddlers or older babies who struggle to settle down. It can also assist with digestive issues such as colic and reflux.
The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed using a strap and clip attachment. This makes it extremely stable and secure, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep without having to worry about your child sliding off into the middle of the room. The rounded cocoon shape has softly padded sides and two mesh windows at both ends to allow plenty of airflow while making sure your baby is safe.
The mattress is soft and firm. It comes with a washable cover. The crib is simple to assemble and disassemble with an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it very mobile. The four rubber-covered wheels lockable ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. The crib is easy to clean with the fabric that wipes clean and is easily put in bags for overnight stays.
The TuttiBambini CoZee Air
This premium model is designed to be a safe, baby-sitter from birth until 6 months. It comes with bars that rock to allow for easy mobility, as well as castors. The airflow mattress is a premium model that provides an incredibly comfortable sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings including an incline setting to help with reflux and congestion.
Unlike some bedside cribs that can be a nightmare to clean due to their incessant stream of snot and dribble, the Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean lining and fabric that can be washed in the machine. It also has an upper bar that can be easily lowered to feed at night without having to fiddle with zips in the dark.
Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleep space for her newborn. She loved that it didn't sway like other models, meaning it wasn't waking her at night while she was trying to comfort her baby for feedings. She also loved the fact that the side could be lowered so she didn't have to reach out over her partner to carry the baby to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more modern than the other cribs we've tested that are usually utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg, and comes with a carry case so you can take it with you on holiday or when you move house. The only additional items you'll require are a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. There are step-bystep instructions and pictures to guide you through the process as you open the box, making it a single-person job when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bedside bassinet that helps parents feel closer to their child while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and slides through three positions to fit beside the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always within arm's reach. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to circulate through and gives you a quick glance at your little one. And you can store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a carry-on bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot, and not too big or too small. They also loved the large storage basket which is ideal for stowing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who wish to co-sleep but don't want to share their bed. Or if one of the partners suffers from mobility issues such as back pain or arthritis. Our mom testers are thrilled with the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora, and it also has an optional reflux incline to help alleviate gas.
Our moms appreciate the fact that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as the other cribs for bedside use however and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around, consider one of the alternatives on our list.
