Types of Hob and Oven
A stove and oven are a common part of most kitchens and is available in many different styles. You can mix different types of ovens, such as electric and gas to meet your needs.
A hob can also be equipped with safety features, such as child and position controls. These features can prevent children from accidentally altering the heat setting or touching the hob.
Types
The hob is the main focal feature of any kitchen, and can have a significant impact on the outcome of your cooking. There are many kinds of hobs, and the one you choose depends on your cooking needs.
Gas hobs provide a classic option. They are quick to heat up and respond immediately to temperature changes. Professional chefs prefer them because they offer precise control. However, they aren't as easy to clean as other hobs and could require more maintenance.
Electric hobs have a flat ceramic surface and heated elements beneath. They come in different sizes and with up to six cooking zones. Each zone has its own heating element that you can control individually. This allows you to boil potatoes on one ring while cooking sausages in a different. This type of hob is easier to heat up than gas, and is an alternative that is safer for children since the cooking zone is heated only when you place the pot on it.
Traditional ceramic hobs are a very comfortable alternative to electric and gas and are also a very stylish option. They have a smooth, durable surface that is easy to clean but aren't as responsive to temperature fluctuations as other hobs and are slower to cool down.
The Domino hob is an alternative to electric and gas hobs. It incorporates ovens under the cooking surface. They are ideal for kitchens that have small space. They are also suitable for kitchenettes and flats. They are usually more affordable than standard hobs and can be energy-efficient, but they can also be fragile and require greater maintenance.
Gas
Gas hobs are cooktops equipped with burners that can easily be fitted into the kitchen countertop for a seamless appearance. Gas hobs are usually powered by LPG or natural gas, but they are also powered by propane gas. The modern, sleek design can bring sophistication to your modular cooking space.
A traditional gas stove comes with various burners, usually 4, but sometimes as many as 6. The burners can be ignited by a match or a knob. The flames can then be controlled by a set of valves which can be adjusted in temperature.
In contrast, most modern gas hobs with built-in gas are equipped with multi-flame burners that let you manage the outer and inner rings of each burner to precisely manage your cooking. These burners are much faster and more reliable than older models.
Traditionally, it was important to keep a gas stove lit continuously to ensure the burners were always hot and fuelled. This was to avoid accidents, for example, not turning on the oven when the stove was still lit with the help of a match or a pilot light. Modern cookers are designed with safety in mind. They come with a built-in fire failure device that shuts off burners automatically if the pilot light fail.
Gas stoves and hobs need to be inspected, cleaned, and maintained regularly. To accomplish this, you must make an appointment with a Gas Safe registered engineer. Not only will they be able to make sure your appliance is working correctly as well, but they'll also provide expert advice and suggestions on how to avoid problems in the future.
Electric
A quality hob is equally important when it comes to making the perfect kitchen. Worktops, refrigerators, freezers and ovens are always the first things that pop up to the mind. The type of hob you select will influence the way your kitchen operates and how easy to clean.
Electric hobs use heating elements under a smooth glass surface which is typically cleaned with an non-abrasive cleaner. The elements turn on when you turn on the hob and can be adjusted to various power levels by turning or clicking a control knob. They may take longer to warm up than a gas cooker, but once they are done, they usually provide better, constant temperature control. They have built-in indicators that let you know whether a particular area is hot or not.
Typically, they come in a range of four to six sized rings that can be cranked up to different power levels. They are ideal for flat-based cookware, but not for cast iron pans because they could overheat. Certain models (such as Belling BELCH602T) have dual-ring designs which allow you to cook sausages and boil water on the same ring. Some even have a 'boost' function that concentrates high-powered heat into a single ring for stir fry cooking sauteing meat, or boiling large pots of water.
Induction hobs are different from regular electric models due to the fact that they utilize electromagnetic fields instead of traditional gas flames to heat your cookware. This enables them to achieve precise temperatures in a short time frame, which makes them highly energy efficient. They also have a cool to the touch surface and flashing heat indicators that let you know that the ring is in use or is still hot.
Ceramic
Ceramics can be used to create decorative or functional objects. It's formed by mixing earthen elements, clay powders and water into the desired shape, then subsequently fired in a high-temperature oven called the Kiln. Once it's made, it can be covered with decorative or paint-like substances to add color and texture.
Ceramic hobs blend design and function to create an impressive piece of modern kitchen furniture. They operate by using radiant heating technology that passes an electric current through coiled components hidden beneath the black glass surface of the hob. When activated, they generate heat that is then transferred to your pan through an infrared system. You can alter the intensity of the heating by turning the knobs or touch controls.
Some ceramic hobs come with dual ring designs, with one smaller and one larger cooking zone, allowing you to choose the most suitable size for your pan. You can also get hobs with booster burners that generate high-powered heat rapidly ideal for searing meat or bringing pans of boiling water to a boil quickly.
Ceramic cooktops are more efficient in energy than other types of hobs as they take longer to heat up and switch temperatures. You can also select vented hobs, which integrate an air-conditioning system that is integrated into the cooktop made of ceramic. This ensures that steam, smoke, and cooking smells don't remain in your home.
Induction

The heating elements inside hobs with induction are made up of a series of copper wire coils that are placed beneath the surface. They produce electromagnets to heat the pans that sit on them. The coils stir the free electrons within your pan's base metal, which in turn, distributes heat evenly to your food. The surface of the hob is never hot, and the cooking zones are automatically turned off as soon as your pan is removed.
Induction hobs are typically more expensive than other models however they're also quicker to heat and use 30-70% less energy than gas or ceramic hobs. They're also easier to clean, as the hob surface itself isn't heated, but the contents of your pan do.
Certain manufacturers offer a specific induction model that has additional features such as a pause feature that shuts off the power to your cooker when you step away from it, or link up two cooking rings at the same time at the same power level for additional flexibility. They are commonly called FlexInduction hobs and can be more expensive than traditional induction models, but they're worth a look if you like to multitask.
This induction hob is our favorite. It comes with four cooking zones, a Bridge function, and nine power settings, offering you a variety of options for ambitious cooks. In our tests, it performed well with precise control and quick heating when making pancakes.
hobs oven comes with dishwasher built-in, as well as automatic pan detection, which makes cleaning easier. There's a small selection of compatible pans it cannot be used to cook using utensils that have magnetic bases. This can be a challenge in the event that you have a large amount of non-compliant cookware, or just some of them are suitable for induction cooktops.
