Window Handles

Window handles are available in a variety of styles and colours to suit your home. They are operated by a locking mechanism concealed within the frame to open and close the double glazed windows.

When replacing your handle, it is important to check the spindle length. This is the distance that the nose sticks out from the base plate, or how far it is inserted into the lock.

Espag Handles

Espag handles can be used to operate multi-point locks on double-glazed windows which allows the handle to turn a series of locks around the window for greater security. Our collection of espagnolette window handles includes straight and cranked designs in a range of finishes including brass, chrome, black and forged.

Each handle is made from robust die cast zinc and powder coated or plated to provide high corrosion resistance, impact resistance and protection against wear. They are specifically designed to be used on uPVC and aluminium windows that have shoot bolt or espagnolette mechanisms and can be locked in the closed position with the push button or key to lock in place.

The majority of espagnolette handles come with seven millimeter squared spindles that runs through the lever backplate to fit into a lock mechanism inside the sash frame, turning the handle will activate the lock. When choosing a new espagnolette handle it is important to take the spindle length into consideration since this will determine the way your window will open. The size of the spindle will be marked on the backplate of the handle numbers like '5 3/4', '5', or '2/3'. This is the one you must compare to your existing handle to ensure it fits.

Cranked handles are a different design to straight handles. They can be ordered in either left-handed versions (opened clockwise) and right-handed versions (opened anticlockwise) according to the way you open your window. The cranked design is intended to provide you with more hand space when opening the window, which is ideal for windows that may be close to the frame's edge.

upvc door handle repairs is another variation of the espagnolette style, this one with a cockspur nose that closes onto the striker plate in a manner similar to a multi-point espagnolette lock. This type of handle is suitable for older UPVC and aluminium windows. It can be used as a repair handle to replace damaged cockspur handles.

The key-lock insert is available for both cockspur and cranked handle models. They are available with a choice of handles and also a blanking plug in black if you prefer your window handle to be unlocked, or if you want to use it solely as a fire egress.

Cockspur Handles

The cockspur handle is a very traditional window handle which has a spur (triangle bit) that presses against the wedge found on the frame when the handle is closed. They are typically found on older aluminum or uPVC windows that do not have an internal mechanism that secures the frame. The cockspur handles help to hold them together.

The handles are available in a range of nose and nib heights to match different profiles. They're also suited for both left and right-hand window systems. These handles function similarly as an espagnolette handle however they come with additional functions, making them ideal for tilt and turn windows. The lever can be placed downwards when locked to close the windows and 90 degrees to open it like windows, or up to normally open the window.

They feature a multipoint locking mechanism that is more efficient against forced entry than double-glazed casement windows. The hinges on the bottom of the outer frame have metal locking pins that are engaged into a rail made of steel across the frame's inner side when the handle is in its closed position. Two more hinges on the corners of the bottom can also be opened inwards to keep the window in position. This is a great feature for larger windows, and also allows for better ventilation.

The open mode is activated by turning the handle in such a way that it is facing upwards. It opens the window with the vertical direction that allows for better airflow and makes cleaning easier. This is because the sash can be pulled upwards from either side of the window to create a gap that is sufficient for an incline or ladder to pass through.

Tilt-and-turn handles are typically larger than cockspur and espag handles due to the fact that they need to be able handle the larger and heavier frames of the same sizes. They are spindle-based, and employ the same kind of fixings that a standard espag handle or cockspur handles uses, but they will have a wider base and usually larger screw centers.
