Passenger vehicles

You require a class-C license to drive an automobile, truck, van, or rental vehicle such as a Uhaul. The driver's handbook for each state has a comprehensive description of the vehicles which are eligible for. The CDL 1 (also known by the acronym CDL C + E) is the most comprehensive HGV license you can get. It permits the operation of an HGV with a trailer that has a maximum weight of 750kg, and is the licence that the majority of drivers of taxis or livery services get.

Drivers who have this license are allowed to operate vehicles with trailers of up to 750kg MAM. They can also operate small HGVs that carry dangerous materials (with the placard) as well as other vehicles that do not fall under the classifications of Class A or B. This includes dump trucks and straight trucks that have trailers. In the United States drivers with a class C license must undergo additional training in order to be certified to operate these vehicles.

This kind of license is typically required for firefighters as well as members of emergency/rescue squads, or fire departments. It is not required in every jurisdiction. It is a great idea for young drivers to begin their driving careers by obtaining this license as it allows them to gain valuable driving experience and build their skills before they reach the age for a full licence.

Drivers who are younger than the age of 18 must complete 40 hours of practice and have a learner's permit for a period of six months before they are eligible to apply for an intermediate license. In this period they are not allowed to drive between 11 p.m. between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. except when they are working or school events. They must also limit the number of passengers to one non-family member under 19 years old and can only drive with an authorized driver with a supervisory license who is older than 21 years old. These restrictions remain in force until the driver turns 18. They can also choose to take a course to earn an H or E class endorsement.

Hazardous materials

A Class C commercial driver's license permits drivers to operate vehicles that do not meet the requirements for Class B or A licenses. This license also permits drivers to operate passenger vehicles that carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver, and vehicles that transport goods classified as hazardous materials (hazmat). Drivers of these kinds of vehicles must go through special training and pass a test to gain an endorsement for their CDL.

The H endorsement allows a trucker the ability to operate a vehicle which transports hazardous material in placardable quantities. It only applies if the amount of material being transported is within the DOT limit, the material is properly identified and labeled, and the vehicle and cargo conform to safety regulations. Additionally, a hazmat employee must undergo specialized training to ensure that the proper precautions are used when transporting these items.

In addition to the H endorsement there are a number of other endorsements that can be added to the CDL. The N endorsement permits drivers to operate tanker trucks that transport sometimes volatile liquids and gasses. Truckers must pass an exam to prove their expertise in specific areas to earn this endorsement. The T endorsement allows drivers to operate double or triple trailers that require additional knowledge and skills. The X endorsement requires that truckers pass a niche test to operate tanker vehicles that carry explosive materials.

Every motor vehicle containing Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 materials must be attended at all times by its driver or an authorized representative of the motor carrier. This applies to both interstate and state-wide transportation, as well as to vehicles and shipments transporting dangerous materials.

The hazmat endorsement will not be available to truck drivers who deliver local deliveries. Drivers must have at least two years of experience in driving to qualify for this endorsement. They must also demonstrate good health, have a clean driving record, and pass a physical exam. In addition they must be able to pass a background check and drug test. Drivers who fail to comply with these requirements could be subject to fines or lose their CDL.

Combination vehicles

Many countries around the world have different systems of licensing drivers. They are based on factors like age, vehicle type and other. Some are alike, while others have very unique classifications. If your trailer and vehicle are paired to have a maximum authorised mass of more than 750kg, you will need to get category C+E. This licence permits you to drive a D1 category car when combined with a trailer that has a maximum authorized weight of 750kg or more.
