Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be slotted into weapons, armor trinkets, gathering tools and weapons to provide an attribute bonus or extra effect while the equipment is being used.
item upgrades can be obtained through crafting, bought from vendors or on the trading post, looted or obtained as a reward. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be classified into two categories: type-restricted and universal. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones, can go in any equipment. Type-restricted upgrades, such as inscribed objects, need to be installed on specific types of equipment to unlock their bonuses.
Certain upgrade components are only recoverable by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Ascended armor and legendary gear could also contain upgrade components that can only be retrieved with an Black or Ascended Salvage Kit. Upgrades slotted into an item are not able to be replaced with other upgrades of the same type except for glyphs that are able to be swapped out and out of gathering tools.
Glyphs are able to be replaced by other glyphs similar to the type, while any upgraded item will display the name of both its original upgrade and the one that was replaced in the hover text. Inscriptions add their own name to the item they alter, and can be seen by right-clicking on the upgraded weapon or piece of gear.
Glyphs
Glyphs are symbols in a font that are activated to provide additional text features. They usually are inspired by icons or other symbols visually connected to the concept they represent however, they can be totally abstract. Glyphs are defined by Unicode, which assigns a code to each symbol and allows them to be used in a variety of fonts. Some glyphs come in multiple forms, like small caps and swashes. Some glyphs have only one form, like the capital letter A. The Glyphs Panel has an option to search that allows you to filter by a glyph's name, CID or GID or Unicode value. You can also use the context menu of an symbol to create a brand new character or edit the glyph.
You can choose a font to be used in a glyph set from the Glyphs panel's context menu. You can also opt to remember a particular font when adding a symbol. The Glyphs Panel displays the font selection when a glyph is associated with more than one font.
The glyph metrics in a font can affect the layout of text. For instance the glyph could have an advance width that is the length of space it takes from its beginning point to the end of the font. The glyph might also have side bearings, which are white spaces on the right and left sides of the font. These side bearings, also referred to as kernings, alter how the glyph appears in the document.
Glyphs are upgraded at an Upgrade Altar, which is located in the Nightmare Dungeons. Each Nightmare Dungeon has a specific amount of time to be completed, and after that the Glyph Upgrade altar will appear. The altar will let players spend the Glyph XP they've earned by running the dungeon, and it will also boost all of the nearby Paragon Board nodes in its radius.
The hero can add the stat bonuses of each glyph to his total. These bonusses can help you decide which glyphs you want to upgrade and which ones to place on the Paragon Board.

Set bonus
A set bonus is an additional effect that can be added to an item of equipment. The effect can boost certain stats or abilities and can provide additional power or utility. There are a number of different set bonuses, and each has a distinct effect it provides. These bonuses are exclusive to the specific piece of gear which grants them. Each set bonus comes with an amount that it offers and this is essential to know when selecting the right gear for your character.
There are 15 different bonuses available in Breath of Wild. Some of these effects require the player's participation while others are non-required. Some of these effects are linked to armor, while others are tied to modifications or enhancements that are contained within the item. Unlike the glyphs, the set bonuses don't reset when you upgrade your equipment.
You will receive an amount of set bonuses when you purchase new equipment. It could be a slight increase in defense or damage. For example the Blood Mandate set provides a small cold and fire damage boost. You can only get five copies of the set bonus per character.
Other set bonuses can offer protection against specific types of enemies, or a reduction in cooldowns. Some sets of armor may even grant a boost to specific weapon type. Bone Weap, for example is a set of armor that blocks Stal from attacking and enhances the damage output of bone weapons. This is especially useful for hunters that like to use bon weapons.
The majority of players pick the bonus that best suits their class. This is because they want to increase their performance and get the most of their character. Most of the set bonuses differ for each class, so it can be difficult to determine which one is best.
The set bonuses are available as tokens which can be obtained by submitting a lot of warzone congratulatory notes to an operations vendor. Alternatively, they can be dropped from Operations bosses as well as other content including dailies at level 75 weekly and heroics.
