Before forming Toto its members worked as session musicians for Steely Dan[3] Seals, Crofts[4] Boz Skaggs, Sonny and Cher. Five guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's singer.
About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure however, they bounce back with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name around the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It is a departure from the ballads of their previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty.

After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped away from the stage. This gave each member of the band the chance to pursue their own solo projects. In 1996, the band returned for a tour and an album. This was the first time that all of the original members were on stage together for more than a decade.
The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all the original members of Toto were on stage together. Following this, the group broke up again. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 years that all of Toto's original members performed together. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

Toto has been one of the most loved rock bands for over three decades, having scored huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." The group's anthemic, arena-rock style is inspired by a variety of styles that include progressive rock, world rhythms jazz, and soul.
Despite their popularity the group had to face a number of setbacks in their later years. In 2002 the drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence for health reasons. Drummer Shem von Schroeck stepped in however the group was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, a string of lineup changes and a string of disappointing albums led Toto to call it quits for a period of time. Toto returned to touring in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to the band's top form, and the tour that came with it was a sold-out event in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both joined the group.
