Before forming Toto, its members did session work for Steely Dan, [3] Seals and Crofts,[4and Boz Scaggs, and Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's singer.
About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes Toto a household name across the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to a different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Despite their acclaim the group had to face a number of challenges in their final years. In 2002 the keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a leave of absence for medical reasons. of absence. In 2008, Toto decided to take off from touring following a string lineup changes and a series of disappointing releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 after the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to form for the group and the tour supported it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both returned to the group.
