Mainland China lottery sales down 12.7 pct in May

Sales of official lottery products in mainland China fell 12.7% year-on-year to 35.52 billion yuan ($5.16 billion) in May, official data from China's finance ministry showed.

Official lottery sales fell for the fourth consecutive month in May compared with the same month a year earlier. Welfare lottery sales fell 15.7% to 16.49 billion yuan last month, while sports lottery sales fell 10.0% to about 19.03 billion yuan.

Lottery sales fell in 28 of mainland China's 31 provinces and cities in May.

Lottery sales fell 4.7% year-on-year to 177.83 billion yuan in the first five months of 2019. Welfare lottery sales fell 10.6% year-on-year to about 81.84 billion yuan, while sports lottery sales edged up 1.0% to 95.99 billion yuan.

The largest lottery market in mainland China is still Guangdong, with total lottery product sales from January to May down 9.3% year-on-year to 16.46 billion yuan.

Guangdong followed, with total sales of welfare and sports lottery tickets down 1.2% year-on-year to just over 15.07 billion yuan. China's eastern province of Shandong ranked third with total ticket sales up 3.5% year-on-year to 14.43 billion yuan, official data showed. 파워볼사이트
