Macau's tourism boss expects 130,000 tourists to visit the country every day during the mainland Chinese holiday surrounding Labor Day on May 1. This is higher than the Qingming season in early April, but about 23 percent lower than the 170,000 daily during the latest Chinese New Year holiday in February.

The predictions for the May festival, a five-day break, came in comments sent to local media on the sidelines of Thursday's public event by Maria Helena de Sena Fernandez, director of the Macau Government Tourism Authority (MGTO).

If those numbers materialise, they would represent about 82% of the daily visitors recorded during the 2019 Labor Day holiday season before the COVID-19 pandemic. But the 130,000 daily figure would be about 32% higher than the figure achieved last year.

This year, the State Council of China designated the Labor Day holiday period from May 1, a Wednesday, to May 5, a Sunday. The Lunar New Year was an eight-day holiday on the mainland. 홀짜게임

Macau had just under 98,400 daily visitors during the 2023 Labor Day holiday season. Mainland, which ran for five days from April 29 to May 3 of that year.

The same holiday season in 2019 was just four days from the mainland, with a total of 636,644 and an average of 159,161 visitors per day, according to Tourism Bureau data.
