LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators have a lot of storage in small footprints. They're also priced less than many standard-depth French door refrigerators and eliminate the requirement for a separate under-counter freezer. LG Smart Mirror InstaView counter-depth refrigerator (LMWC23626S) isn't an exception with the capacity of a standard fridge in a sleek, modern design, with an integrated dispenser for easy access to filtered water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins offer plenty of space and the top shelf can fold down to create a half depth shelf that can accommodate larger items. A set of crisper drawers are at the bottom of the refrigerator, and the full-width deli drawer can be used for meat or produce.
The refrigerator has a recessed Icemaker that is located on the back wall. This helps save space and lets you store more bags of ice. The refrigerator has a door-cooling system that makes use of vents in the freezer and fridge doors to bring cold air into the refrigerator. It helps to prevent hot spots and helps keep temperatures more uniform throughout the fridge.
This LG refrigerator stood out during our tests. It offers ample space to feed a family, but we found a few annoying issues. The freezer drawers are not as cold as we'd like. The middle drawer reached 41 degrees during our peak testing which is warm enough to serve ice cream and other frozen items. The temperature in the rest of the freezer remained at around 36 degrees.
Another issue is that the refrigerator doors have sunken handles on the inside and underneath which makes it difficult for those who are smaller to close them. It might seem like a minor thing however we prefer front-mounted handles on refrigerators, as they are simpler to open and close.
The fridge is pricey, but it's worth the investment for anyone looking to have an ultra-modern appearance in their kitchen. We recommend this fridge for those looking to upgrade their current refrigerator, or for those who are building a brand new home and want an integrated design in the kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Samsung's latest counter-depth French-door refrigerator called the RF23M8090SG, is priced at $4200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well in our cooling tests, although we're not too fond of its polygon handles that are gimmicky and the bins with a crisper design feel a little flimsy.
One thing that distinguishes the RF23M8090SG apart is its Bespoke line, which lets you customize your fridge with removable colored panels which can be swapped when you're bored of the ones you have currently. There are 11 color options that range from soft pastels to brighter hues and four metallic finishes. These panels can be personalized to include photos or text. This makes the fridge more personal and can be matched to your Rick Owens dress, Andy Warhol banana neon or tie-dye Crocs.
You can also alter the color of the fridge's LED lighting, which is pretty. The interior of the refrigerator is finished in a way that reduces smudges and makes cleaning easier. The only real drawbacks of the RF23M8090SG are its cramped beverage center, as well as an inclination to access the door-indoor feature that houses a water dispenser as well as a pitcher. You must look for the lever located on the underside halfway down the door. When you locate it, the second door opens within the fridge, containing the pitcher docking station and the water dispenser.
The 6.8 cubic foot freezer compartment is big enough to hold a large amount of frozen food. It also features a slide-out drawer that allows you to access the food you need without having to open the entire compartment. There's also a butter bin-style compartment in the freezer to allow for easy storage of small items and a drawer with a huge capacity which can store larger frozen items. The drawer can be locked with a password, so that anyone who isn't a good fit is kept out. It also comes with a handy LED to help you see what's inside at an instant. The freezer is also able to monitor energy consumption and help you reduce your energy consumption with the SmartThings that are smart and enabled with Energy mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators add a sleek appearance to any kitchen and they fit well in a variety of room sizes. If you're looking to enjoy the convenience of this style without the additional height, a counter-depth refrigerator is the best choice. This Frigidaire model which we've thoroughly tested and received an above-average rating in our ratings because of its reasonable price and thoughtful features, such as an adjustable temperature drawer.
But it also has a few nagging issues. Our test data suggests that the FGHB2866PF can heat up quite significantly in the freezer and get uncomfortable hot in the most inner shelves of the fridge. That's reflected in our heat maps which show how much the internal temperatures vary from minute to minute. The butter bin in the orange section at the top right is especially warm during our test period. This might not appear to be a problem initially however, the fridge spends the majority of its time at 32 degrees.
It's important to note that this model is not Energy Star certified, which could be important to some buyers. The real problem is that this fridge isn't the best. It's not equipped with the latest features and durable construction which makes it difficult to recommend it over more expensive options at this price point.
This Frigidaire fridge is similar to the stainless steel version that you might find in the local appliance store. It's a great option with a brushed finish that looks great and is impervious to scratches. However it's not offering much to differentiate itself from rivals that are more feature-rich and cost less.
Still, if you're shopping for a cheap counter-depth French door fridge and don't have the funds to splurge on our best picks, then the FGHC2331PF is worth looking into. It's got enough storage to meet the requirements of many families and does a great job at keeping food fresh. Even if it's not an energy-efficient model, it doesn't have the same price tag as much as our highest-rated models do.
