Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds provide drama to children's rooms and provide a sense of adventure. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to store books or a reading light in every sleeping nook to make bunk beds more attractive to children.
Many of our bunk beds for kids can be converted into two twin beds. This is ideal if your plan is to make them move to their own bedroom in the near future. Choose from finishes such as brushed gray, cream white, and rich walnut.
Stairs and ladders
When you are choosing a bunk bed for your kids there is the option to select between stairs or ladders. Ladders are less expensive and easy to install, and they provide a straightforward means of climbing into the top bunk. They are also considered safer than staircases, as they have a larger area for children to step on and a handrail built-in. Ladders also tend to have grooves on the steps which prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
If you prefer the style and appearance of stairs, then they can make a more elegant addition for your bunk bed.
kids bunk bed are also great for rooms that are small on space since they don't protrude into the space as ladders do. They can be constructed of wood or metal, and they can match an array of bedroom styles. Some staircases have integrated storage drawers that can be a great way to increase the size of a bunk bed.
When deciding between a ladder or stairs take into account the age of your child. While it is recommended that no one sleep on the top bunk under the age of 6, older children who are comfortable climbing vertically might be better off using stairs instead of a ladder. Also should you be planning on using your bunk bed as guest beds for smaller children or for adults with a mobility issues stairs are the best choice.
A straight staircase on the side of the bunk requires at least 95" of space on each side. If you don't have this much space, you could opt for a u-shaped staircase that doesn't need as much space, but provides a safe and secure means of accessing the top bunk. Certain beds let you remove the stairs when they are not in use. This reduces the size of the bed and makes it more suited to multi-purpose spaces. There are also stairs that connect to the top of the bed. This eliminates the requirement for separate handrails and makes it easier to climb up and to the bottom for kids.
Guard Rails
Guard rails provide children with the confidence and the freedom to climb in and out of bed independently. However, they must be set properly, making sure that there are no gaps or sagging occurs between the guard rails and the bed frame. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer when installing guard rails, and make sure to examine them regularly to ensure that they're not loose or have holes that could result in entrapment.
Keep bunk beds away from electrical appliances and other things that could become projectiles when your children are playing or sleeping. Set bunk beds far from windows to prevent an injury to fall risk in the event that your children are on the upper floor.
One safety feature you might want to consider is a night lighting for the ladder; it will aid in illuminating the path and down in the event that kids awake at night and need to go to the bathroom or are woken during a storm, and need to get out of their room in a safe manner.
A safety net can be installed at the top of the bunk to stop children from falling out while they sleep or play. This is a great idea particularly for older children who tend to sleep on the top bunk.
The guardrails must be secured to the bunk beds and cannot be removed without tools. The guardrail openings that are above the mattress foundation should not be more than 3.5 inches wide to prevent entrapment or strangulation. The wedge block is placed on Figure 1 in each of the openings in the topmost guardrail member, and above the mattress foundation. Then apply 33-lbf (147-N) force in a perpendicular direction to the plane of the largest end of the block and sustain it for 1 minute.
It is also recommended to teach kids not to hang things on the guardrails or ladder, like clothing, belts and sports equipment; instead a rack for clothes should be used to ensure that the objects aren't a strangulation risk for your child(ren). Be sure that no more than one child sleeps on the top bunk. This could lead to an unsafe imbalance and fall.
Mattresses
When selecting a mattress for bunk beds, take into account your child's size and age. A bunk mattress should last at least eight years or until the children are no longer sharing bedrooms. You'll want to choose one that grows with your child, but still offer enough comfort as they age.
Bunk mattress sizes are usually full or twin-sized, but there are plenty of options that can be suitable for either. If your kiddos suffer from allergies or asthma you should choose an hypoallergenic mattress that has a dust mite barrier and an wicking cover for moisture.
kids bunk bed are prone to many accidents and spills, which is why mattresses with an antimicrobial layer will help keep the foam safe from harmful bacteria and germs.
The comfort of your mattress is crucial. Kids generally weigh less than adults, which means they require mattresses that feel firm but is also comfortable. A lot of hybrid and latex mattresses come with an extra firm side as well as a soft side to accommodate both children's requirements.
Memory foam mattresses can be a great choice for children However, they're not the first choice as they can retain heat and could be too harsh on young spines. Consider a hybrid or latex mattress instead, which offer strong support with cooling infusions to ensure your child or guest is resting cool and comfortable.
A mattress with a low profile is typically the best choice for children's bunk beds.
affordable bunk beds for kids are designed to be slimmer than regular mattresses and to increase the height of the safety rails for the top bunk. They also minimize "filler" materials to provide premium quality in an ultra-slim design.
Consider an innerspring model or a hybrid with upper comfort layers that can be removed and replaced as your child grows. These models will give you a clear idea of how the mattress will perform as your child grows, and you can always add an extra mattress pad or bed skirt to keep it from sliding off the frame. Some mattresses have side rails or a lip built in to prevent this.
Stores
Bunk beds are a great option to make space in rooms shared by children. They also can be an affordable alternative to buying two separate full sized single beds. Many bunks also provide the option of adding a trundle bed that can be hidden under the bunk that is not in use.

The room has bubble walls covered with Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the ultimate escape.
If you aren't able to build a staircase for your stacked kids bunk the ladder could be an easy solution. The ladders are constructed using a single socket Flange, Single Socket, and 90 Degree Side Outlet Fittings. They can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between ladder rungs. The ladder's rungs are also placed so that they're in line with the ground instead of being above it to make climbing less intimidating.
Installing loft beds that can be lowered to just above the floor is another way to maximize space in a bunk bed room. This allows you slide desks, dressers, or toy chests underneath the elevated beds. This is a real maximization of space and it is a great choice for smaller bedrooms, or in a large family home where beds have to be able to accommodate many people sleeping.
