1. Smeg BCC02
The design was created by Milan-based company Deep Design, this sleek compact machine blends the distinctive retro style of the brand with modern technology. It handles every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping them into a puck to texturing milk and dispensing the correct amount of coffee - meaning you can make high-quality barista hot drinks at the touch of the button.
The machine is also available in red, black or taupe. It is a great fit into any kitchen design. The machine does not come free of flaws however. The majority of reviewers thought it was expensive for a cup to bean maker (and isn't equipped with a pitcher of milk).
There were also numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of use of this machine. The intuitive digital display provides an easy-to-follow guideline and feedback throughout the making process, allowing you to perfect your drink every time. It will even alert you to adjust the grind size if it's not enough. It's almost like having a personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, and Elon Musk's rocket-building expertise).
If you prefer drinks with milk, this model features an adjustable steam wand that can be adjusted up and down to accommodate most drinking vessels short of a Viking's drinking horn. We were also impressed by the speed and efficiency in how the frothing was accomplished. It also makes an excellent espresso, with a great crema and full flavor despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder that's quiet, effective and provides great value for money at its current price of PS499. The only issue is that it does not provide the same level of customisation as other bean-to-cup machines that we have tested. It has a pump that is 15 bars instead of the usual 19 bars. This is not as effective for making high-quality espressos. But other than that, this is a fantastic machine to make coffee for those who prefer their coffee strong and black.
