3 Wheel Buggies

3 wheel buggies provide excellent maneuverability, and are a stylish, slim frame. Many of these have a fabric sling with an incredibly comfortable lay flat bed that is perfect for weight distribution, and are perfect for babies from the age of.

The wheels are larger and usually have suspension to allow for smooth, swift mobility on various terrains. The only drawback to these wheels is that they tend to be bulkier and heavier to transport and store.

Stability

Three-wheel buggies have plenty of stability. They don't tip over as easily when you are moving straight. They also allow you to maneuver faster. However, if you attempt to turn or stop suddenly, they'll lose stability and may fall over. Some manufacturers add an additional wheel to their 3-wheel buggy designs in order to improve the stability of the chassis.

The additional wheel can also help you navigate off-road terrain. Choose models that have air-filled tires (also known as pneumatic tyres) that can be used to handle off-road trails, sand, dirt, as well as other surfaces, such as rock and sand. They'll also typically include a lockable front wheel to give stability over rough terrain.

The buggies are easy to maneuver and agile with 360o front swivel wheel. They'll also pass the same rigorous stability standards and tests as the 4-wheel buggies.

If you're looking for a cloth sling seat, they tend to be set lower in the frame than modular seats, so that your baby's centre of gravity is closer to the floor - instantly delivering a smoother ride and a lighter kerb pop (you don't have to exert the same amount of pressure or effort to lift the buggy over and up a curb).

Maxi-Cosi is best known for its car seats However, it has recently expanded its product line with the Citylife, a lightweight travel system and pushchair. This 3-in-1 model is designed for urban living and is suitable from birth with a newborn carrycot or infant car seat. It comes with 4 wheels and a unique pewter black aluminium frame that the manufacturer claims is 'slim and compact' - it's actually only 2cm wider than the Babyzen Yoyo.

Folding

There's a good choice of 3 wheel buggies that fold down to fit in smaller space. Many of these buggies can be folded in one hand and are easy-to-clean. The smallest models will feature a basic height adjustment for the handlebar, whereas others could have an adjustable suspension as well as an expandable 50+ UV canopy. Some models could have an enormous basket as well as a brake lever that is quick-release.

The most reliable 3 wheel buggy to tackle rough terrain

A 3-wheeler will typically be more adept at dealing with off-road conditions better than a 4-wheel model, but both can be stuck in difficult places. A model with bigger front and rear wheels can help. This allows them to push across rough terrain and can help in getting up and down high kerbs.

One option is the new Roma Atlas, which has been praised for its surprisingly quick handling, despite its 3-wheel design. MFM reviewer Kath has tested it with her infant and reported that "it did really well on cobbles, bumpy surfaces, dirt roads, gravel tracks and some hills."

Stella Stella, the all-terrain 3-wheel buggy from Maxi-Cosi is another great option. It can be used from birth, if it is used in conjunction with a carrycot. It's a bit bigger than the lightweight 4-wheelers, but it features air-filled tires with three recline positions and a one-handed fold.

Its primary selling point is its modularity it's compatible with all the brands' infant car seats and strollers. You can build your own travel system, regardless of whether you want to go on a short walk or take a longer stroll, by using the chassis.

Tyres

The tyres for 3 wheel buggies are offered in a variety of styles and materials. Each one has its own pros and cons. Air-filled tyres, for example, offer an effortless ride and superior manoeuvrability while foam-filled tires are more durable. The type of tyre you select will be determined by your lifestyle and where you reside.

For example, if you are planning to travel frequently on rough or unpaved terrain, you might be interested in a 3-wheeler that has sturdier tires. Take into consideration the type of suspension you require. A strong suspension is ideal for handling bumps and humps. However, it can be heavy and increase the overall weight of your pushchair.

The size of the tyre is important. Understanding the size of the tyre is crucial for safety, performance and durability. The combination of numbers and letters on the sidewalls of tyres can seem confusing, but once you decode it, you will be able to understand the tyre dimensions. A tyre that has the size 185/70 R14, for example is a radial tire in 185/70 with a 14-inch rim diameter.

In addition to being more durable, PU tires are lighter and more puncture resistant than rubber ones. If you aren't sure if a pushchair's tires are rubber or PU, simply slide the tires across an even surface. If they slide easily then the tires are made of PU. If not, they are made of rubber.

Suspension

The suspension on a 3 wheel buggy is a vital element to look for as it will absorb the smacks and bumps of rough terrain, making it more comfortable for your baby. A large wheel that are air-filled, and are lockable to ensure stability while jogging is essential to ensure your buggy is capable of navigating off road surfaces easily.

There are a variety of buggy styles to suit every budget and style of life. For instance, the Mountain Buggy pioneered all terrain agility in a three-wheel buggie. The sling seats made of fabric are designed with the perfect geometry and engineering to fit perfectly inside the frame rather than on top, like modular seats. This gives a lower center of gravity and allows it to be placed at the right height to distribute weight evenly to tackle bumps.

The Urban Glide 2 by Thule is another excellent option. It sports sleek design, a huge wheel that's easy to maneuver and combines it with exemplary suspension. 3 wheeler pushchair features a twist handbrake for ease of use. MFM reviewer Kath put this buggy to the test by taking it on a walk through rough ground and she was impressed with how it was able to handle the terrain well saying that it 'navigates easily over grass, bumpy cobbles, pavements dirt tracks, and makes light work of climbing and descending kerbs'.

The Roma Atlas, like the Urban Glide 2 is a popular off-road option. It comes in a variety of colours that will complement your style. It also comes with an adjustable handlebar as well as a large basket. You can also choose from a variety of infant car seats that convert the buggy to pram. This includes the stylishly designed Carrycot Plus(tm) which is a comfortable, flat baby bed suitable for infants and newborns until 12 months old.

Safety

The presence of four wheels makes the pushchair much more stable and less likely to tip over and easier to maneuver. It also makes it safer for your child as the weight of their body is evenly distributed across the frame.

A four-wheeler is also likely to have a lower centre of gravity, making it more easy to roll over curbs and up the stairs. The seats of the fabric sling are placed inside the frame and not on top as modular seats. This creates a low seat position and buggy that is easily maneuvered.

However, if you'd like to go out for a run with your baby then a 4-wheeler may be better suited since it will have a suspension system that allows the front wheel to move independently of the back wheel which allows you to navigate bumpy roads and rough terrain Be aware that not all 4 wheel buggies are suitable for running (most are NOT like the Phil and Teds). Mountain Buggies are the exception because they come with an exclusive suspension system that has been tested independently across all types of terrain.
