Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

A light double pushchair makes it easy to get around, particularly for families with children of different age groups. They are generally easy to fold, steer, and carry up and down the stairs.

This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and massive UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. It also comes with a smart frame that expands widthways to accommodate a second car seat, and also a compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of light double pushchairs that we tested are side-by-side models and are best suited for kids who can sit up on their own because they tend to be lacking car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer adjustable recline for both seats, a big canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They are also easy to maneuver, despite their larger footprint. They are great for parents who worry about getting through doors.

The Cybex Duet is a little different because its clever frame extends its width to create another seat, which makes it lighter than the majority of other pushchairs that are side-by-side on the market. It can fit through doors of standard size and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It is also an jogger which is perfect when you are planning to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or baby carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It offers even more customization thanks to a modular frame. The clever design allows you to convert it into a single or double buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It is a practical option for growing families. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, sexiest and fashionable strollers you can find.

If you're looking for a compact and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or a double with the addition of two carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers loved how sleek and simple it was to use, even when fully loaded with children.

Although they're lightweight double pushchairs that sit side-by-side are not foolproof. If your children are at the same age and stage, they may be fighting over who sits in which seat. If they are at different heights, a tandem style may be best for them, as it allows them to face eachother.

Tandem

While side-byside models might be more suitable for siblings who are the same age tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and have their own charms. They can take a bigger car seat, and some even have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot in the middle. They are larger and are easier to get into and out of. However, their baskets tend to be smaller than the ones found on buggies that are single. They also have larger big canopies with windows that peek out, as well as one cup holder for parents and padded leg cushions for little ones.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that provides great value. Its fabrics feel a little less expensive than our other top-rated tandems, however, it still looks and feels great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Even though it requires some practice, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". It's not possible to fold it without the carrycot attached, however, the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is easy and quick.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will generally have a more precise turning compared to side-by-side models. However, they can be difficult to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slightly slower to pick up speed and may be heavier to move, which can result in strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is another option. It's initially one but you can also add adapters to convert it into a double. It can have an additional seat or carrycot in the front, or the children can be seated side-byside. Some can also consider including a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep pace with a younger brother or sister.

The Uppababy Vista V2 is a excellent example of a convertible, since it can be converted into a twin pram through the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that create a lie-flat area for infants. They can be attached together or placed side-by-side. You can also use the car seat that was included with the pushchair, when it's compatible. These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of high-quality materials that can be used for many years without showing any wear. This means they have a high resale price.

Single-to-Double

Designed for outdoor-loving families who are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this lightweight double buggy can be converted into a jogger thanks to an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres as well as all-wheel suspension. It's also a good option for twins, or children from different ages and as triple tandem, it's able to take on rough terrain. It's a great choice for parents who want a stylish design that is as sleek as a single and comes in various colors of fabric.

We loved the way this iCandy model folds down with just one hand, making it really easy to master. It's also heavier than other pushchairs that are single-to-double in this review, home tester Karolina stated that it is very maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.

You can purchase additional items like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers, with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are a variety of options to recline the seats, with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat offering a reclining option.

This type of buggy has the greatest disadvantage of being wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver between kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these strollers tend to be able to deal with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides and, therefore, you can have plenty of storage. It's important to keep in mind that these strollers aren't as efficient in navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a lot of shopping. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller on a small curved path, it can be a problem. Some are more easy to turn than other, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

The best thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to a family's changing needs. They are typically single buggies. They come with adapters that allow you to include a second child's seat, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single when your child grows older and begins to walk more or prefers to ride on buggy boards.

This stylish tri-fold double stroller is among of the lightest on our list. It can support up to 40 lbs per child, and includes a storage basket between the seats. The home testers loved the spacious canopy with peekaboo windows, multi-position reclining seats and front and rear suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain. It also comes with a convenient parent cup holder, and a large easy-to-access basket. They did note that the backs have small pockets, which are just sufficient to hold phones and keys.

This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive features include an ergonomic handlebar with a high profile for better steering and a rear and front suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing compact fold that has straps that make it easy to schlep and seven-inch wheel lock that swivels in the front and 10-inch back wheels with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you will need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.

This multi-functional tandem is a top choice by our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket that is accessible with both seats facing the parent. Its extremely lightweight weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to move around. The seats are reversible, which means that they can be switched to face either way, and the clever way that it can attach an additional seat or riding board to the rear is highly praised by many. Parents also liked the fact that it can accommodate infant car seats and carriers from multiple brands, including those that aren't typically fit into other double buggies.
