Konami Holdings Inc KONAMI said on Thursday that sales in its gaming and systems division, which includes casino equipment, rose 22.2% year over year in the three months to June 30. Those sales were slightly below 7.7 billion yen ($57.4 million), compared with 6.33 billion yen in the year-ago quarter.

The gaming division posted a profit of 823 million yen in the three months to June 30, down 10.1% from a year earlier.

The Japanese entertainment giant's gaming and systems division includes the supply of casino slot machines and casino floor management systems.

In the casino gaming segment, Konami operates outside of Japan through Konami Australia Pty Ltd and U.S.-based Konami Gaming Inc.

Konami Holdings said on Thursday that many markets were "still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," but that the gaming market was "on a path to recovery as a whole," with casino facilities in North America and Australia "returning to pre-COVID-19 levels."

"In the three months ended June 30, 2022, the sector's business profit fell due to rising material costs globally," it added.

Konami Holdings is also involved in its Japan-focused Pachinko gaming division, and digital entertainment and sports, including video and mobile games. Total revenue for the period rose 5.2% year-on-year to nearly 71.91 billion yen.

Overall group profit for the three months ended June 30 was 11.43 billion yen, down 16.3% year-over-year. The company said its profit performance was negatively impacted by "rising raw material costs" and "reducing product costs" due to the launch of new titles and promotional efforts.
