According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas Police Department officer Larry Hadfield said the shots came from a hotel room where a man committed suicide. The man has not been identified.

"SWAT responded and went into the room and found a male dead man with self-inflicted gunshot wounds," Hadfield said.

Police reported that hotel guards heard gunshots in one of the resort's rooms, also known as TI, just after midnight. Authorities evacuated dozens of guests for hours. According to KLAS-TV, the police department set up a barricade at the resort.

Treasure Island is near the Mirage Hotel and Casino, west of the strip. Treasure Island opened in 1993, and it shows actors dressed as pirates fighting a pirate ship in a lagoon known as Buccaneers Bay. The show has since been discontinued.

Visiting from Texas, John and Caitlin Key said Treasure Island staff and police knocked on the door, telling them to evacuate around 2:30 a.m. Several armed police officers were in the hallway.

It was very scary," Caitlin Key told the newspaper.

The Keys waited for hours near the casino's elevator. They were not allowed to return to their rooms to pick up their belongings to catch a plane. According to the Review-Journal, around 6:30 a.m., hotel staff took some of their belongings to them.

Another hotel guest, Tiffany Brown, said authorities knocked on her door on the 36th floor.

The New Yorker told the newspaper that the gunman only said he was the one with the gun, and the police said 'she should evacuate' with the gun out

Wisconsin resident Donald Thompson and his girlfriend were not allowed back into their room on the 34th floor for security reasons, the newspaper reported. They were given different rooms.

Thompson left his girlfriend in a newly assigned room to go downstairs for a while. However, he was not allowed in the elevator because of security precautions. He waited for hours at the casino.

Thompson told the newspaper, "My girlfriend came into our new room, where I'm waiting to get back up."

Blocking Flamingo
The evacuation from Treasure Island is at least the second involving a gun incident in recent months that has kept guests away from hotel rooms in Streep for hours.

In September, authorities shut down Flamingo hotels and casinos and are looking for suspects in a shooting in India between LINQ and Flamingo.

The victim who was shot was paralyzed. Two suspects were later arrested in California.
