Game equipment maker and content provider International Game Technology (IGT) on Tuesday reported total revenue of $1.13 billion in the last quarter of 2023, up 3.4% year-over-year.

The company posted a net loss attributable to shareholders of $7 million for the period, an improvement from a $64 million loss posted a year ago.

Nevertheless, the IGT Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of US$0.20 per common share to be paid on April 9.

IGT operates three main categories: Global Lottery; Global Gaming; and PlayDigital, an online content division.

The gaming provider reported fourth-quarter operating profit growth of 11.3% year-over-year to $256 million, which "were strong in the lottery, global gaming and play digital segments around the world. Operating margin during the reporting period rose 160 basis points to 22.7%, it added.

The group's adjusted earnings (EBITDA) for the fourth quarter before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization was $454 million, up 8.4% from a year ago. EBITDA margin reached 40.2% compared to 38.3% in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Global gaming revenue was $390 million in the October-December period. Those sales were "in line with the prior year, with higher revenue from handset products and higher revenue from intellectual property offset by lower system sales," IGT said.

In the fourth quarter, machine sales in the global gaming sector fell 1.0% year-over-year to 9,391 units. However, machine sales in the rest of the global market rose 30.9% year-over-year to 2,662, according to Tuesday's announcement.

Global lottery revenue rose 6.6% year-over-year to $681 million in the fourth quarter. Play Digital's group revenue fell 9.2% year-over-year to $59 million.

Vince Sadusky, IGT's chief executive, said in prepared remarks that the company "delivered a strong finish to bring its full-year 2023 profit to record levels."

IGT reported net income attributable to shareholders of $4.316 billion in revenue, up 2.0% year-over-year.

"The attractive array of products and solutions propelled broad momentum in key performance metrics, driving margin improvements in the global lottery, global gaming, and PlayDigital segments," the CEO noted.
