The Joovy Kooper X2 is a side-by-side double stroller that can seat two children with a weight of up to 50 pounds each. Its seats are more generously bigger than those of other double strollers that are lightweight, and the canopies have nice-sized SPF 50 sunshades with peekaboo windows. Weight

The weight of a double buggy is one the main factors that determine its ease to push. A lighter buggy is easier to lift and transport but it might not have the suspension to withstand bumps and uneven terrain.

Most double buggies have a maximum weight per seat and some have overall frame limits which is why it's essential to check the details of each model before you purchase. Certain double buggies can be folded with the seats removed, making them lighter and smaller. This is helpful in cases where you have limited storage space.

Tri-fold doubles are generally the lightest, since they only require a single hand to lift the top and lower sections. They're also narrower than side-by-side buggies, making them a good choice to fit through doors. The iCandy Geo 3 tri-fold double is among the most lightweight on the market. It is able to comfortably accommodate twins, or a toddler and baby.

Tandem buggies are initially a single pushchair but come with adapters to accommodate a second seat, carrycot or car seat they are a great option for growing families. Some, such as the iCandy Orange offer over 30 different seating options, so they can adapt to your family, even with a third child. Doubles are heavier than trifolds, but because the weight is more evenly distributed, they are much easier to maneuver.

Folding

The best double buggies designed for small children can fold up in just a few seconds. This feature is appreciated by our Lab experts because they can fit the buggies inside the back of their vehicles and save space when not being used. For example, the Joovy Kooper X2 has straps on each seat that pull up and the whole thing folds down -- it's a trifold that even our most senior testers could accomplish with just one hand.

The light Delta Children LX Side by Side is another great option for a compact double buggie. Its lightweight weight is an advantage, but so are its key features: nice-sized pop-out canopies with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows swing-away bars that aid children climb in and out of the seats; and reclined seats and leg rests for younger kids.

Manoeuvrability

When selecting a compact double stroller, it is important to think about its maneuverability. This includes the ease for both children to be able to ride in the buggy. Some pushchairs are better than others in this regard and include the iCandy's 'cinema seat' (where the back is elevated).

This is where narrow tandem buggies and side-by-side designs can come in useful. However, they are slightly longer overall, and therefore could be difficult to navigate through doors.

The UPPAbaby Vista 2 pushchair is an excellent example, since it is a relatively narrow model that allows for two additional seats, and more importantly, an auxiliary board that can accommodate a third kid.
