MGM Mirage management announced on Jan. 17 that it would delay the development of a strip mega-resort on a 55-acre boardwalk site and instead focus its efforts on the Atlantic City gaming project.

The resort will be built on a 55-acre site in the center of H-tract, and the former city landfill will also be home to Borgata, a $1 billion, 2,000-room project between Body Gaming Co. and MGM Mirage.

MGM Mirage said in its announcement it was putting development opportunities behind it on several sites in Las Vegas and on other sites, including one along Atlantic City's boardwalk. "We rigorously reviewed the myriad of development options available to us and determined the Atlantic City lot was the most attractive short-term investment opportunity," said Terry Rani, MGM Mirage's president, in a statement released on Jan. 16.

The size, scope, theme and budget of Atlantic City properties will be announced upon completion of the design phase. No development timeline was available at press time.
