Samsung Fridge Freezers With SmartThings
Samsung's Family Hub refrigerator combines a 389 litre fridge with a 225 litre freezer. It's an American-style large model with a top-quality temperature control system and a host of innovative features.
It's customizable using removable panels which allows you to design one that is perfect for your collection of tie-dye Crocs and matte black Rick Owens clothing.
All Round Cooling
In fridges with All Round Cooling, separate cooling circuits can help keep your food fresher. Conventional fridges have a single evaporator that cools both the freezer as well as the refrigerator compartment. This can result in the food being dry due to the low-humidity atmosphere from your refrigerator is pumped into. This can make the food taste bland and unpleasant.
With All-Round Cooling, each shelf level has multiple vents that circulate cool air. This allows for a more consistent temperature, even when you shut and open the refrigerator door.
Optimal Fresh Zone keeps fish and meats fresher for up to twice as long as conventional refrigerators, without freezing them. This feature is a game changer for anyone who loves cooking, but isn't keen on the hassle of thawing out frozen fish or meat.
All Round Cooling employs the cooling plate made of metal at the back of the fridge to hold the cold air and stop it from getting lost when you open the fridge door. It also helps reduce the requirement for power defrosting to save time and money.
The ice dispenser that comes with Samsung fridges is one of the best we've ever tested. Its patent-pending Twist Ice Maker dispenses large cubes with just a twist, and it can be kept in the drawer below when not being used. This creates more space on the shelves, and makes it easier to locate your favorite beverages and snacks.
With Reversible Doors You can select the direction in which your freezer or fridge opens. You can easily fit your fridge into the layout of your kitchen while keeping it neat and tidy.
Samsung's Family Hub is the central control of your SmartThings-connected home. It has a large touchscreen that is mounted on your refrigerator. It can display live video from your smart doorbell, place orders for groceries using an automated inventory or suggest recipes that use what you have in stock.
The flex drawers that are located on the bottom of Samsung fridges are an excellent storage solution that make it easier to store taller items like canned drinks and trays of pizza. They can be turned back when not in use, and folded flat to make space. This is a great feature for those who love to bake and cook, but have limited fridge storage space.
FlexZone
The Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator freezer features a unique 3-zone system, which allows you to add an additional freezer drawer or refrigerator compartment. This flexibility lets you personalize your fridge freezer to best fit your needs and storage requirements. It also makes it simple to upgrade to a larger or smaller fridge by the addition of an extra FlexZone module.
The refrigerator is elegant in its design that will fit in with any kitchen design. Its stainless-steel finish is durable and sleek. It also comes with an anti-fingerprint finish to keep the surface looking fresh and new. The fridge comes with an external water and ice dispenser to make it even more efficient.
It's a stylish fridge with an upper-right FlexZone compartment that can be converted from freezer to refrigerator. This lets you store things like ice cream, bags frozen vegetables, meat, or fish in the freezer. It did well in our tests, too however the absence of a voice control or SmartThings integration on the 21.5-inch touchscreen felt like an unrealized opportunity.
There's plenty of room to store food items in the rest of the fridge which includes two drawers for crisps and a customizable middle FlexZone drawer. This drawer lets you pick between five different settings, based on the needs of your fridge freezer compartment. There is the freeze setting that is compatible with the freezer settings, the soft freeze setting for wine or deli trays, a meat and fish setting and an alcohol setting for snacks, drinks and other items that are frequently used.
This Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator is ideal for families that want to have a fridge and a freezer in one. It's a little less spacious than the top-of-the-line French door models, but it comes with a number of useful features and is an excellent alternative for those with small kitchens.
Samsung Fridge Freezers are very energy-efficient thanks to their digital inverter technology. This technology regulates temperature in the fridge to ensure that it doesn't fluctuate a lot and keeps food fresher longer. Its energy efficiency has earned it the ENERGY STAR Certification.
SmartThings
SmartThings may not be as effective as Alexa or Google Assistant however, you can still add a lot more smart devices to it. It's also built into Samsung smartphones, tablets and TVs - and some refrigerators. That may be enough to make it worthwhile for some, particularly if you have multiple Samsung products.
The SmartThings App is well-rounded and polished, and includes an 'if x is true, then y" automation section that is very effective. You can set things up like an alarm that goes off when sensors for water leaks detect flooding, or turning on the lights when your phone senses you're at home. It can also control your refrigerator if you connect it to a smart socket however we've had mixed results with this.
SmartThings requires a hub which isn't cheap. Samsung offers a range of different options, including the SmartThings Station that you can attach to an existing router and use it as a nightlight. There's also a less expensive SmartThings Hub Dongle that supports Z-Wave and Zigbee and Thread, with Thread support coming soon.
Once you have your smart fridge connected to your smartphone, hub and fridge it's a breeze to use. The SmartThings app lets you manage your fridge from any location, with notifications sent to your smartphone whenever it's opened or closed. You can create schedules, adjust the temperature and even set reminders.
SmartThings was an early participant in the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working towards making major home appliances made by different manufacturers interoperable. It could mean that you can control your Samsung washer and dryer, Electrolux oven and LG television with the same app in the near future.
SmartThings isn't as popular as Alexa or Google Assistant but it does include some major names on its list, such as Arlo Nest, Belkin, and Lifx. It's compatible with the Matter protocol, which allows accessories to be connected regardless of the brand. For the majority of people, however, merged Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls is probably the best option.
Family Hub

A fridge freezer isn't much more modern than this: it has a 21-inch touchscreen inside the door, complete with a myriad of clever features. You can access entertainment apps, write notes for family members (think big digital version of a notepad that is stuck to the fridge) and check for weather updates, and much more, thanks to Samsung's own voice assistant, Bixby.
The touchscreen can also be used to manage your food and recipes, with the ability to add ingredients straight from the recipe app and also see what's in the fridge with internal cameras.
fridge samsung can create a grocery list on the go and track food items to check their expiration date. You can also use an app for recipes that will read out the instructions while you cook.
Samsung has spent a whole year working on the Family Hub fridges based on feedback from customers. One major change is that you can now set different profiles for each household member so they can tailor the apps and information they can access. It's not as effective as having Alexa integration built into your refrigerator however it's a step up on the previous model.
Family Hub is not only a platform for managing entertainment and food but also controls Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can connect to Matter-compatible devices, like lights and plugs and can be used with the touchscreen to control them.
Samsung's refrigerator is a couple of years old and, although it still has a lot of functionality however, its touchscreen capabilities are not a feature that most people would consider essential. They're more fun and a bit of frivolous accessories than anything else.
This may change when there are more software updates, but for now these models are the best for those who wish to have the most complete connected refrigerator that is possible. You can save money by buying an appliance that does not include the Family Hub if you're not one of those people. That might still be worth it for you when you have a number of smart home devices that need to be controlled by the same device, or if you simply like the idea of a fridge with a giant touchscreen.
