A parliamentary extraordinary committee tasked with investigating Thailand's possible legalization of casinos will report its findings when the lower house of parliament meets again next month, the Bangkok Post newspaper reported, citing an unnamed commissioner.

The commission, led by Deputy Transport Minister Atyrat Ratanasate, was set up in early December. It said at the time that it could be reported in about 90 days.

Two casino consultants told GGRAsia in December that Thailand's capital Bangkok would be an optimal destination for casino resorts.

The Commission has been tasked with investigating the "moral problems" related to casinos and what forms of legal frameworks can ensure proper regulation and taxation of casino businesses.

The possibility of legalizing casino business has recently been a controversial topic in the Buddhist community. Several Southeast Asian countries adjacent to Thailand, such as Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia, have legal gambling places.
