S.Korea ops Paradise, GKL fall in October betting revenue

Casino revenues for Paradise Inc. and Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL), the foreign-only game venue operators in South Korea, fell in October from the previous month, respectively. The information was submitted to the Korea Exchange on Thursday.

Compared to the same period last year, Paradise's sales fell 17.3%. Casino sales were 61.1 billion won ($45.7 million), approaching 73.76 billion won in September. The October 2022 tally was up 31.2%.

Table game sales fell 17.5% sequentially to W57.2 billion in October this year. Machine game sales fell 13.3% month-on-month, just under W3.81 billion.

No comment was provided explaining the monthly difference.

With October results, annual casino sales in Paradise rose 137.4% to nearly 625 billion won over the same period in 2022.

October's Table Drop – The amount of cash customers exchanged for chips at the game table dropped 5.1% sequentially to W538.51 billion. The drop was up 30.4% year-over-year.

In the 10 months to Oct. 31, Paradise's table drop was close to W5.5 trillion, up 146.5% year-over-year.

Paradise's data is based on the results of four locations operated by its casino division. The locations are Walkerhill in Seoul, Jeju Grand on Jeju Island, Busan Casino in the southern port city of Busan, and Paradise City in Incheon, near the main international airport serving the Korean capital, Seoul.

Grand Korea Leisure's October gaming sales reached 28.64 billion won, down 14.0 percent from the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, it was down 17.7 percent. The company did not provide a comment explaining the monthly difference.

Table sales fell 15.2% to 25.53 billion won, and decreased 21.0% year-over-year.

Machine game sales fell 2.7% month-on-month to 3.11 billion won, but increased 24.3% year-on-year.

As a result of October's results, Grand Korea Leisure's annual casino sales rose 62.1 percent year-on-year to 334.51 billion won.

The group's October drop was flat year-on-year, slightly below 308.05 billion won. The drop in the first 10 months of the year was 2.75 trillion won, up 85.6% year-on-year.

Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only, seven-luck brand casinos. Two are in the capital city of Seoul, including Gangnam, and one is in the southeastern port city of Busan. The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
