Yu-seong Kim finished in 4th place Bronze medal goes to Takagi of Japan

Shin Ji-ah (Youngdong Middle School), the next generation figure skating women's singles figure skater, won a silver medal at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics (Gangwon 2024).

In the women's single free skating of the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics figure skating held at the Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangwon-do on the 30th, Ji-ah Shin received 125.35 points, including 63.45 technical scores (TES) and 61.90 artistic scores (PCS).

On the 28th, she finished in second place with a total score of 191.83 points, combined with the short program (66.48 points).

In the short program, Japanese athletes took 1st and 2nd places, and Korean athletes took 3rd and 4th places, so Shin Ji-ah and Kim Yu-seong (Pyeongchon Middle School) lost a little in the women's singles at this competition, which was called a 'Korea-Japan battle on ice.'

Jia Shin's rival in the same age group, Mao Shimida (Japan), won the gold medal with 196.99 points. The bronze medal went to Yo Takagi (Japan), who earned 183.20 points.

Kim Yu-seong finished in 4th place with a total score of 181.53 points.

With Shin Ji-ah winning the silver medal, Korean figure skating succeeded in winning both men's and women's singles medals at this competition. In the men's singles event that ended on the 29th, Kim Hyeon-gyeom (Han Gwanggo) won the gold medal with 216.73 points.

Shin Ji-ah is the third Korean figure skater to win a medal at the Winter Youth Olympics, following Yoo Young and Kim Hyun-gyeom, who won gold in the women's singles at the 2020 Lausanne Games.

Ji-Ah Shin, who was third in the short program, moved up her ranking by one spot on the day by not making any major mistakes in her jumps.

Ji-ah Shin started her performance to the free skating song 'Not about angels' by British singer Buddy, and she got off to a good start by performing a clean double axel. She then performed a triple loop and triple salchow with ease.

Shin Ji-ah's triple flip-double toe loop-double loop combination jump was judged as flip jump attention (be careful of using edges) and loop jump quarter landing (when the jump rotation speed is less than 90 degrees), resulting in a GOE reduction of 1.14 points.

She usually lands a level 4, the highest difficulty, in the non-jumping component, but this time her change foot combination spin was awarded a 0. Combination spins require more than two turns of all three spins, but due to the insufficient number of revolutions for two spins, they were not recognized as combination spins.

In the second half of the performance, where 10% additional points are awarded, Shin Ji-ah perfectly performed the triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination jump, which is the most difficult of the components, and earned a base score of 11.11 points and a score of execution (GOE) of 1.69 points.

In the triple flip-double axel sequence jump, I was disappointed with the judgment of long edge (using the wrong edge) and underrotated (when the jump rotation speed was less than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees).

However, Ji-ah Shin, who completed all of her jumping tasks by executing her triple lutz perfectly, handled her flying camel spin at level 4, the highest difficulty. Shin Ji-ah continued her performance with the Coreo sequence and finished her performance with the Flying Change Foot Combination Spin (Level 4).

Shimada, who came out with a difficult component, was judged to have made a quarter landing on a triple axel, and fell on the ice after performing his main weapon, a quadruple toe loop, and was given a downgrade (jump rotation less than 180 degrees). GOE was reduced by 1.60 points for a deduction of 1 point.

Shimada continued to make minor mistakes in jumping, but was able to maintain first place and win the gold medal.

Yu-seong Kim, who was in 4th place in the short program with 63.64 points, recorded 117.89 points in the free skating on this day, including 62.81 points in TES, 56.08 points in PCS, and 1 point deduction, and ended up in 4th place, unfortunately missing out on a medal.

Kim Yoo-seong left a regret after falling while performing the triple axel, which was her first acting element and specialty. When the underrated decision was made, she lost 3.20 GOE points and was also deducted 1 point.

But she forgot her mistake and performed the rest of her tasks relatively steadily, including perfectly executing the very next component, a triple flip-triple toe loop combination jump. 19가이드03
