Harrah's Entertainment Inc. announced plans to expand Harrah's St. Louis-Maryland Heights, worth $75 million, on Oct. 12.

The cornerstone of the expansion will be a 16-story, 309-room hotel tower with 21 suites. Once completed, the expansion will offer 600 hotel rooms in Hara's St. Louis.

"We are currently spending more than $10 million to upgrade our existing hotel rooms, and the response from guests has been outstanding," Sanfilippo said. "This gives us confidence that guests appreciate our luxury rooms."

The expansion project also includes redesigning the hotel lobby, a new valet parking area, adding a parking express ramp, and expanding two restaurants. Harrah's Entertainment is in the final stages of the design process, and construction of certain components of the expansion project is expected to begin before the end of 2002. Official groundbreaking is planned for the first quarter of 2003, and the entire expansion project is expected to be completed in mid-to-late 2004.
