The Toronto Blue Jays have won four consecutive games, further raising their autumn baseball hopes.

Toronto beat the New York Yankees 7-1 in the 2023 Major League at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York, on the 20th. Toronto remained second in the American League wild card with a season record of 84-67 losses, widening its distance to tie for third-place Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers by 1.5 games.

A week ago, Toronto's fall seemed to be over. Toronto predicted that the four consecutive games against Texas, which will be held at its home stadium from the 12th to the 15th, will be a watershed moment to decide whether to advance to fall baseball. Chris Bassett, Ryu Hyun-jin, Yusei Kikuchi, and Kevin Gausman were sent out one after another to secure at least three wins, and the result was all four games lost. Due to the shocking inferiority, local media in the U.S. and Canada reported that Toronto was at a disadvantage in the wild card race.

However, Ryu had a different opinion. Ryu Hyun-jin swallowed his disappointment as he failed to prevent the 3-6 defeat despite his three-run pitching in six innings against Texas on the 13th, but "There are not many games left this season." We know we've lost two games in a row, but that's part of the game as well. Tomorrow is another day. We need to focus more on tomorrow's game," he said, raising his teammates' spirits.

Toronto did not back down easily. It set the stage for a rebound by winning all three consecutive home games against the Boston Red Sox from the 16th to the 18th. In other words, the atmosphere raised in the series against Boston continued to the game against the Yankees.

Toronto set up a starting lineup with George Springer right-winger, Bo Bissett interceptor, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. designated hitter, Cavan Biggio first baseman, Davies Schneider second baseman, Dalton Basho left-winger, Matt Chapman third baseman, Alejandro Kirkposu and Kevin Kiermaier center fielder against the Yankees. The starting pitcher was Yusei Kikuchi.

Kikuchi pitched well with four hits, one walk, seven strikeouts and one run in five innings, achieving his 10th win and 6th loss of the season. It was his first 10 wins of the season since his debut in the U.S. Major League in 2019. However, he was worried about his injury when he went down holding his shoulder while pitching in the bottom of the sixth inning. The club explained, "Kikuchi left due to triceps in his left shoulder."

Sprayer hit a home run from the start and eased Kikuchi's shoulders. In the top of the first inning, he hit a superior solo shot. I didn't miss Yankees starter Clark Schmidt's cutter in the middle. Springer hit his 57th career leadoff home run in the first inning, boasting the second-highest dignity in Major League history. Although it is still a big difference from the all-time No. 1 Ricky Henderson 81, among active hitters, they are leading the way in suppressing the momentum of opposing starters by producing the most leadoff home runs.

Kikuchi immediately allowed a chase in the bottom of the first inning. After one out, Aaron Judge hit a left-handed hit, and Gleyber Torres hit a timely double over the middle to make it 1-1.

After a brief lull, the Toronto lineup began to explode again in the top of the fourth inning. Leadoff hitter Bissett opened the door with a left-handed hit, and Guerrero Jr. got on base thanks to a third baseman throwing error, leading to a chance at first and third bases with no outs. Biggio then hit a timely hit to lead 2-1. He had to draw more additional points in the continued chances of first and second bases with no outs, but Schneider, Basho, and Chapman failed to produce follow-up hits and stepped down as a series of poor hits.

In the top of the fifth inning, Bissett hit a shot that empowered Kikuchi's shoulder. Two outs later, Springer walked out. Bissett opened the distance 4-1 with a two-run shot over the right middle wall. 스포츠토토

Kikuchi, who was pitching well, sent an abnormal signal during the sixth inning. The balance seemed to have collapsed sharply from the time the leadoff hitter DJ LeMayhew was walked. Kikuchi complained of uncomfortable symptoms by clutching his shoulder, and after the training coach confirmed it, he already replaced the mound with Garcia.

The Toronto bullpen continued to pitch scoreless despite Kikuchi's injury variables. Garcia threw one inning-Trevor Richards one inning-Jordan Hicks one inning-Nate Pearson one inning to keep his victory.

In the top of the ninth inning, Kirk fired a shot that sealed the victory. With leadoff hitter Chapman on base with a double over the middle wall, Kirk hit a two-run shot over the left-center wall to widen the distance to 6-1. With no outs, Kiermaier reached base with a double and led to an additional scoring opportunity, and third baseman Kiermaier scored and won 7-1 when Guerrero Jr. got on base due to a shortstop throwing error with two outs and a third base.

If Toronto laughs in the wild card race, Ryu Hyun-jin will be the only Korean major leaguer to enjoy fall baseball. The San Diego Padres, where Kim Ha-sung and Choi Ji-man play, have six transaction numbers left until the wild card elimination, while the Pittsburgh Pirates, where Bae Ji-hwan plays, have only four transaction numbers left. It is not easy to overturn at the last minute because there is a difference of more than five games from the National League wild card competition team.

Ryu Hyun-jin returned to the big league in August this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June last year and a rehabilitation period of about 13 months. With three wins and three losses, 44 ⅔ innings and a 2.62 ERA in nine games, it was a great help to Toronto's last-minute spurt in fall baseball. As his fastball speed has slowed down compared to his heyday, he is enjoying fun by installing a slow curve in the range of 60 miles per hour. Being a veteran, he cleverly found a way to survive. If Toronto advances to fall baseball, Ryu Hyun-jin will have a chance to take the fall mound for the first time in three years since 2020.
