FIFA has launched an investigation and disciplinary process against soccer associations in Brazil and Argentina for failing to prevent the disorderly disturbance of spectators.

FIFA confirmed on the 25th, "FIFA's disciplinary committee has filed a lawsuit against the Brazilian Football Association (CBF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Brazil is under investigation for violating Article 17 of the FIFA Disciplinary Regulations, which deals with game order and security."

"Sanctions related to violations of the rules generally include fines or future stadium closures," the British media BBC said. As a result, Brazil, which hosted home games, may be disciplined without spectators in future World Cup qualifiers.

The game in question was the sixth leg of the South American qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA North-Central American World Cup between Brazil and Argentina at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the 22nd. 스포츠중계

Ahead of the kickoff, fans from both teams clashed and scuffled. The situation was quite serious, such as ripping off the stands and swinging fists, and some fans were bleeding. The players also stepped up to stop the fans, but the situation did not settle down easily.

Excessive suppression by local police was also controversial. Some fans were hit by batons wielded by police. Argentina claims that the families of Argentine players were also assaulted by police in the process. There was also a scene in which goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was outraged and took away the baton. Eventually, the players evacuated to the locker room for a while, and the kickoff was delayed by 30 minutes.
