The Evil Dead franchise has long been a feminist-oriented horror franchise and has even had Bruce Campbell typically leading the lead. Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly from Sam Raimi's original The Evil Dead have been collectively dubbed "The Ladies of The Evil Dead," and 2013's remake of course gave us a new franchise icon in Jane Levy's Mia.

The new film of the year Evil Dead Rise brings Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan into the mix as the latest females of The Evil Dead, and Sutherland just shared a pretty awesome photo over on Twitter this weekend. Sutherland and Sullivan recently reunited with remake Star Jane Levy, the trio photographing together as the latest "Evil Dead" blood sister."


To be clear, Jane Levy is NOT included in Evil Dead Rise, so don't read too much into the image. It's just a fun personal shot during a recent gathering with Three Evil Dead actors.

Is it possible to believe that it's been TEN YEARS from the time Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead was released?! Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise is coming exclusively to cinemas on April 21 2023.

Here's the official plot synopsis for Evil Dead Rise...


"In this, the sixth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie who has three kids by herself in an uninviting L.A apartment. The reunion of the sisters is cut short due to the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of the building that gives rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a gruelling battle for survival as she faces the most terrifying mommyhood story you can imagine."

The shotgun and chainsaw (particularly Ashley's "Boomstick") are iconic weapons in the Evil Dead franchise. As we've seen in the Evil Dead Rise marketing material, both make an appearance in the new film however, there's a brand new weapon to be found, and it's bound to become a fan favorite. Meet Staffanie.

Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise relocates the franchise away from the traditional log cabin setting to a Los Angeles apartment building. This is the location where Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) lives with her three kids: Danny (Morgan Davies), Bridget (Gabrielle Echols) as well as Kassie (Nell Fisher). As their Aunt Beth (Lily Sherwood) is visiting town to visit and a Necronomicon appears and hurls its evil right into Ellie. As the only adult left standing, Beth takes charge, however, the children do all they can to stop their mother who is a skeptic, even the tiny Kassie. The weapon she uses? A creation she made herself called Staffanie A combination of dolls and a precise staff.

While in Austin to attend screenings of the movie's SXSW premiere, Cronin took the time to sit down for an extended conversation with Collider and specifically mentioned Staffanie during the non-spoiler part of our discussion. In explaining how he achieved the perfect balance between sheer terror and classic Evil Dead humor, he utilized Staffanie as an example:
