COURSE TITLE:    World Geography (two semesters, 1 credit)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

World geography is the study of all the countries in the world. Major geographical features, people groups, religions, and current events for each country will be covered. The course moves around the world by continent and highlights major events in the history of each region. There is an emphasis on map study, and students will finish with a knowledge of every country’s location on the world map.

None

 

WHY THIS COURSE MATTERS:

The purpose of this course is to help students gain a working knowledge of our physical environment and its impact on our history and lifestyles, giving us a better understanding of the nature of the world and the events that take place in it from a Christian perspective, thus allowing us to carry out the Great Commission. 

 

Questions to Think About:  

How does a nation’s location affect its ability to interact with other nations (trade, culture, politics, etc.)? How do a country’s natural resources provide opportunities to improve the lives of its citizens and encourage trade with other nations? How does a nation’s religion(s) affect its laws, culture, morals, and institutions? How has a nation’s natural resources affected its economic development?

Materials:    blue or black ink pens, wired headphones, wide-ruled notebook paper, and colored pencils

                    

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Locate countries on a world map,
  2. Research, analyze, interpret data, and draw conclusions about a country based on its E.S.P.N. (Economics, Society, Politics, and eNvironment).
  3. Compare a country’s ESPN to the Biblical worldview.

  • How does a country’s climate (eNvironment) affect its social norms (Society) in regards to attire? working conditions? religious practices?
  • How does a country’s political system (Politics) treat the individual created in the image of God (Society)?
  • How does a country’s religion(s) (Society) affect how people are treated who live in ways not in alignment with the tenets of the religion(s)?
  • How does a country use its natural resources (eNvironment) to improve the country (Politics) and/or the living conditions of its people (Society)?
  • How does a government (Politics) improve or control its people (Society)?
