Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule


The official list below lists reserved time periods - not exams that have been confirmed. It is important to confirm with your instructor if the final exam for the course will be conducted during this time.

Make sure you read the Goethe exam rules and conditions and guidelines on each exam's page prior to you register. Also, be sure to sign up for the right exam level.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists the locations where DEP conducts operator qualification exams. Please consult individual exam pages for additional guidelines, conditions and guidelines and exam material. If you need special accommodations because of chronic illness, visual or hearing impairment or other limitations make contact with the exam center and provide a detailed documents when you register.

Faculty may find their exam times via the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. The Registrar's Office also has a schedule of exam times for classes that must be tested under NYSED regulations. For evening classes, final exams are scheduled at the regular class time during the final exam week.

Please be aware that the Projected University Examination Schedule is intended as a rough guideline and that the dates for the final exam are subject to change.

Registration

Students are encouraged to consult the exam schedule online. However, it is important to note that the final exam schedule could alter at any moment. For this reason, students should check with their instructors to make sure they have the correct date and time for their exam. Students should be sure to print out the official list and bring it with them to their exam.

Exam sites try their best to accommodate students with special requirements. The nature and extent of these needs should be noted on the registration and confirmed by a medical attestation. Additionally the locations for the exam must respect confidentiality and be maintained.

If a student has three examinations scheduled for the same day, it is suggested to contact their instructor or department to arrange an alternate exam. Although it is possible to take three exams in a single day, this can cause high stress levels and impact the quality of the exam. The instructor may not be able give an additional test to make up for the missed day.

Before taking the exam students must prepare by studying their course material and practice their German skills. The exam is a paper-based test which tests the ability to read, speak, and write in German. The results of the exam are presented on a scale from A1 to C2. Students who pass the test receive the Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate documents that they have achieved the level of A1 in their language. This level is the initial stage of the six-level scale of competence that is set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free of charge. Students must bring a valid government issued ID to the test. Those without a valid photo identification will be disqualified.

Fees

You will have to pay a fee for the examination if you wish to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This is in addition to the course fee.

Practice tests let you get familiar with the format of the test, the language, and the difficulty of the questions on the test. They help you evaluate your proficiency, identify areas of knowledge that aren't covered and increase your chances of passing the exam.

Please note that the exam fee is not refundable. Examination results can only be accessed via email and not by phone.
