The Best Robot Hoover

The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its price is surprisingly low and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Be sure to examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large particles and wash them if required. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin in the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like cheap robot vacuum cleaner (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide better cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40


With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
