Robots that clean and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry and wet messes in one session and without the need to switch between devices. They can also help save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will provide excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models that automatically empty their bins, refill their water tank, and machine-wash their mopping pads using an appropriate dock.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and the quick-start guide will get you running with a clean, full dust bag, hard floor solution and water tank in no time.

The S1 Pro is a powerful small machine that can is able to clean up a storm and is a great vacuum cleaner too. Its mops spin at high speeds and apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of dirt, pet hair and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, a variety of attachments and brushes and an intuitive app which lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For example, you can choose to have the robot clean up the living and kitchen but go easy on the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models can't. Its only drawback is that it can hit objects and walls at full speed. However, just a glance at the cleaning history within the app will show you exactly what it's doing as well as where it's heading and the obstacles it's run into or avoided.

The docking station has an LCD display that indicates the need for maintenance for cleaning up debris and washing the dirty water tank. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank, using a 600ml bottle of Eufy's own solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long running time. The mop can run for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode. The vacuum can last for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to needing recharging or returning to the base. 2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's most popular robot vacuum and mop. In contrast to the model of last year, this one features a double agitator in its mopping pad, which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning capabilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has enhanced suction power, which allows it to pick up small hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners might be unable to pick up.

This Roborock model, like the other two I tried is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it overcome obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things a step further by having a dual camera that can detect objects and decide whether they are an object that is a wall or a different surface. It can then automatically change its path and clean around them without skipping a beat.

It's the most expensive robot I've ever tested however it also comes with the most features. Its sleek, angular design is striking and only has three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also restarts the cleaning mop function, a button for cleaning that doubles as a child lock and a home-button that can take the robot to its dock. The hinged lid opens up to reveal a 350ml dustbin and 200ml water tank. The water tank is self-emptying and the bin is auto-refilling.

The only issue I have discovered with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth if needed, but it's difficult to remove the mount for manual washing. I've noticed that any plush carpet that the robot passes will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and could cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of smart features that include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app lets you manage and configure these smart features. It also contains maps and advanced mopping options. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the battery's life. You'll need to jump through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame considering how efficient it is otherwise.


3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is a leader in the industry with cutting-edge features, high suction power and advanced mopping capabilities. Its intelligent design allows for customised and efficient cleaning while saving you time.

The X40 is easy to keep clean and has many features which make it a good option for busy families. Its docking station automatically empties the trash bin into a 3.2 L bin, washes the mop pads, then refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It will also tell you whether the mop pad has reached its capacity to the max and notify you of the situation before it overflows.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that is among the most expensive models available and comes with many additional features that make it stand out. The mops are equipped with a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. It makes use of two mops with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and it comes with an impressive suction power of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can clean pet hair and other small dirt particles and also pick up spills and wet spots.
