The most effective robot vacuum will sweep and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It will also leave them spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If best automatic vacuum cleaner required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.


Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
