1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin as it gets full.

Both robots are proficient in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets, and they can easily maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its debris into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and vacuum an area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households however, it can also fit in well next to a coffee table or on a bookshelf where you can move it around like a magic tool.


The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It can quickly switch from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

This is a typical, not an exceptional, run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to vacuum the typical home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second run generally works). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area several times to ensure an efficient clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 because it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and can better move itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more durable and has a stronger motor, and performs notably better on both bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a greater variety of automation options.

However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we tested and could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature allows you check in on your pets or children while you are away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that's self-emptying to keep the robot's trash bin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They have an extra wide cleaning path, as well as a dustbin that is 2X larger than the competition.
