The Best Robot Hoover

The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detectors) are a plus.

Check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.


iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
