Types of UPVC Door Handles
If your upvc door handle is in need of replacement, it's important to find the best replacement for your home. A locksmith can offer and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around a point. When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum will tend to turn in the direction the force is applied. This rotates the force and lets you lift or move things that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever is able to move. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever gets extended. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point at which you apply force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have different effects based on how the forces are applied. For
upvc door handle replacement richmond of class 2 tends to rotate in the opposite direction to when the force applied to it (like a teeter-totter). If you push on the door handle the force will create the same rotational effects as this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a larger amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge quantities of cargo. The lever principle is also utilized in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs when you are standing on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and designs and can be used on a variety of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold as a pair for the outer and inner door with spindles & screws included. They are also available in hand and unhanded versions for different types of users.
These are often used for new builds and can be installed to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are raised to open all the multipoint locks, and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide additional security compared to traditional lever door handles as the locking operation can only be accessed via the inside using an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.
They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are an affordable option to provide extra home security. The only downside is that they don't have the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt and therefore don't stop external access in the event that the door has been left open.

Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic type of door handles. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed. It can also be locked using a key. Some lever privacy handles work in the same way, but with an additional knob, similar to a doorknob.
A snib is a very useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are crucial. You can use the snib feature to block your partner from entering until they are ready. This kind handle is also used for interior doors, such as bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from the outside.
In some cases the snib button can cause issues, especially when you have older locks and doors that are distorted. If the snib button is accidentally pressed by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door could be slammed and you locked out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These locks can be retrofitted on pull handle kits that double turn and are available with cover plates to hide the holes that are already present, allowing for a seamless install. The E-LOK utilizes a smart app to allow you to open the door using mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system is tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are made using a solid metal structure and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular style of handle is used for front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key in the event that the lock has not been deadlocked. This is achieved by the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being removed or the door from being opened.
This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that use split spindle mechanisms. This type of operation requires that the lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles but it may also involve changing the lock case or a brand new set of handle furniture to allow this additional function.
