The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the future generations could read the words. However, many of the words were replaced with foreign ones, such as dui, which is Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Toto's early history, which began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's rapid economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company produced goods to meet demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. To achieve this, it used the first tunnel kiln in the nation to make ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for more efficiency and consistency.

In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began to expand outwards to take advantage of sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own lines of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.

In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis on research and development for household appliances that use water. It also upgraded its system of distribution to better serve customers and increase profit. The company embraced a just-in time approach to supply chain management, and it used the same approach for its sales process. This resulted in a higher level customer satisfaction.

Toto continues to invent toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for example, has a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. The company also uses recycled water in its production process and has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets, Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.

The first Toto museum opened in 2015. It features exhibits on Toto's most famous products as well as their evolution, group companies (all of which are ceramics), the history of plumbing and other products like bath units. In an additional gallery, you can see Toto products that are sold throughout. The museum houses a bathroom with a WASHLET as well as other toilet innovations.

Before forming Toto the band, members of the group did sessions for various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

The album opens up hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also includes some more jazzy, slower tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and the distorted AOR which could seem like a complete blunder, but works extremely well.

After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career. The band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the group in the aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the band continued as a trio featuring Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation that was not as successful as IV. However, the band still had a successful chart-topping album in the year 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Keyboardist David Paich's work also was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than on previous efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released a few months later, and the band embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to discover songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was released as a double-album titled Then And Now in 2001.
